Welcome to Twenty-Six Lists! I hope you'll join me in this simple link-up, where I share a writing prompt for some kind of list, and invite you to share what's on your list. Your list can be very simple or include lots of explanation; short or long; a bullet point list or essay style. Interpret the list prompts however you like, depending on how much time you have to spend, and how much background you'd like to share.
I saw a meme the other day that said something about a whole generation being grumpy because they had to update their records to cassettes and then to CDs, then to MP3s, and now have to subscribe to a streaming service to listen to their music. The way we listen to our personal music collections really has changed over the years, hasn't it? I had records and cassettes when I was young, and recorded some of my records to cassette so the music was portable. I remember when CDs became widely available and making the switch. My kids all have iPods of some kind, but I never made use of that technology. Now vinyl records are popular again.
Did you ever make "mix tapes" by recording favorite songs directly from the radio? Now we have Spotify, Pandora, and Amazon music to curate our personal favorite "mix tapes" and sort our music the way we want. When I first got Spotify (our streaming service of choice) I created a playlist called "the ultimate mix tape". I use Spotify for some podcasts as well as for music, so my playlist is really long, but here's a sampling of what's on my current playlist.
On My Playlist:
I tend to listen to a mix of podcasts and music. The podcasts I subsccribe to on Spotify include:
The Bible Book Club - I started listening to this just this year, and have also been catching up on the older ones, since they are working through the Bible from beginning to end. The two hosts have some little quirky things they do that I'm not a fan of, and I don't always agree completely with their take, but that's what makes a good book club, right?
Grammar Girl - I'm a word nerd and I've always thought I would make a good editor or proofreader, so I've been following this podcast for years and find it fascinating. Word nerds unite!
I subscribe to several others that I listen to more sporadically or depending on the topic or my time. These include: The Jordan B. Peterson Podcast, Relatable with Allie Beth Stuckey, and The Alisa Childers Podcast.
Music! I have two main playlists I use on Spotify - one for older favorite songs, and one for newer stuff and stuff I know my husband doesn't care for! What comes up most often? Tunes like . . .
Bottom of the Barrel by Rusty Shipp
Familiar Shadows by Death Therapy
Happy by NF
Just What I Needed by Apollo LTD
- the album Clancy by Twenty One Pilots (and all the older albums too)
- anything by Coldplay, U2, Phil Collins, Switchfoot, Rush, Blue Man Group, Crowder, Queen, Paul Simon, Newsboys, and more.
I also have a playlist just for worship music, which includes a lot of Hillsong, Elevation, and Maverick City Music, to name a few.
Here is a link to one of my current favorite worship songs: Praise by Elevation Worship
As you might be able to tell, I have pretty eclectic taste! I also enjoy classical, country, bluegrass, and oldies, and have playlists that include those styles.
What are you listening to? Please share.

When I was a little kid, we had two sizes of vinyl records. The small ones had a little plastic adaptor to make them fit the stereo. We then had 8-track tapes, cassettes, CD's . . . I remember when my kids received Ipods. They thought they were something else! I love my AirPods. I use them sometimes when I'm cooking -- I'm banging around and I don't have to keep increasing the volume.
ReplyDeleteYes I remember 45s and 8 tracks as well. I only use earbuds as in-ear monitors when I'm playing in a band so I don't have airpods or anything like that. Sounds like they can make listening to your favorites easy! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteOh yes I remember mixed tapes well! I never really thought about all the changes but I did start with records and I had an MP3 player. I used Pandora for awhile but just switched to Spotify so I only have the one "summer songs" playlist but it already has nearly 60 songs on it.
ReplyDeleteI tried Pandora for awhile too, but Spotify has become our service of choice. I haven't checked how many songs are on any of my playlists, but I know my two main ones would provide many listening hours! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
