Currently . . . November 8, 2024

At the beginning of each month I've been participating in the "Currently" link-up hosted at Overflowing With Thankfulness. Our hostess Jennifer posts a set of action verb prompts for the month and writers respond. So, without further ado, here are this month's prompts and what's happening currently . . .

***********

Loving - Things I'm loving right now include:

This photo of my granddaughter, which is my phone's lock screen.

I WAS loving the beautiful fall weather, which has been warm and sunny here. I WAS loving it, but thanks to putting our clocks back, there's very little daylight left to enjoy after work, and that makes me sad.

I'm loving that the election is over, and maybe I can stop receiving political junk mail and text messages!  It does help that I'm happy with most of the election results, of course. I'm hopeful that people will be kind and peaceful and cooperative in the days ahead, and especially that Jesus-followers will lead the way in being peacemakers and calming fears.

Looking forward to - Getting my home back in order after a couple weeks of alternating vacation and company. I'm sad that Mom and Dad have gone back home and that I won't be together with most of the kids again until Christmas, but at the same time, I'm looking around and seeing all the things I need to get done and now I might possibly have time.

That said, I am looking forward to Thanksgiving, even though it will be very different this year - just us and our son and his family. And I'm already looking forward to Christmas too!

Smelling - coffee and candles. A coffee-scented candle too, in fact. Occasionally I notice that distinctly autumn smell when I'm outside. On a very practical note, I recently got a new car air freshener, but we took it out of my car because we weren't sure if the scent was the irritant that had caused me to lose my voice. I'm pretty sure now that it's not the culprit, and since I've noticed my car has started to smell just a little stale, the air freshener is going back in the car tomorrow!

Preparing for - nothing in particular at the moment, although we'll need to think ahead for Thanksgiving plans, and I guess it's time to pull together some Christmas lists and settle some Christmas travel plans. I have been ambivalent about Christmas cards the last couple of years, but I've been considering over the last couple of days that I would probably like to send some this year.

Thankful for - I'm especially thankful for God's protecction over my family lately! My parents are still in good health and traveled to visit us and back home again with no problems. My husband and I drove to Ontario and back a couple weeks ago, and then last weekend we drove to Maryland, then to Ontario, and back home again, and were safe on the roads over all those miles. And most importantly, Landon and Meaghan, Aubrey, and Spencer were all protected and unhurt when they were in a car accident last week. They were in a collision with a vehicle that ran a stop sign, and it could have been so much worse, but no one was injured. Their vehicle is totaled, and hopefully the insurance settlement will be satisfactory. Vehicles and stuff can be replaced. It sucks to have to deal with insurance and it costs money, of course, but the truly important thing is that the people are okay.

Quotable (I've enjoyed hunting up little quotes to add to my Five Minute Friday posts, and I do a regular Wednesday Quotes post based on interesting quotes, but I've still got such a collection that I have to keep sharing them!):

Truth crushed to earth shall rise again. ~William Cullen Bryant

No revenge is more honorable than the one not taken. ~Spanish proverb

The man who says he is willing to meet you halfway is usually a poor judge of distance. ~Laurence J. Peter

  2. Enjoyed reading this... so much good stuff. First those quotes- the one about revenge. Wow. That is really good. I am so sorry to hear that family was involved in an accident- yes such a pain to deal with the aftermath but thank goodness no one was hurt. Your trips to see family sound really nice and, yes, I can see how you´re grateful for smooth, safe travels. Lastly, I miss the smell of coffee and ¨fall¨ so much since never having fully regained my sense of smell years ago due to Covid :(. Have a great weekend!

    1. One of the oddest outcomes of covid was losing a sense of smell, wasn't it? I guess that's not the worst thing, but surprising how much it affects enjoyment of life. Glad you enjoyed the quotes! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  3. I am glad your family weren't hurt in the accident. People drive quite badly here so it's always a good thing when no one is hurt. I'm starting to prep for Thanksgiving. We have started ordering a smoked turkey from a local restaurant. That makes everyone happy (especially me) so just the sides and desserts need to be organized.

    1. We thought about ordering a smoked turkey from the bbq place here, but I think this is the year we finally do our own. Turkey might be the only meat we hven't smoked yet, so it's time! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  4. That friends comic is so cute. And very true for the help I might offer my friends. I can be more in the way, I think, that a help.
That doll baby couldn't be cuter with her rocking chair. My gosh, her hair is beautiful. Like an angel's.
Glad for all the travel mercies God has bestowed on you and your family. He kept us safe on our getaway trip this past week. Even with some slippery road conditions in the mountains.
We haven't talked 'turkey' - Thanksgiving with our in-town daughter and her family but need to decide what we are doing. Not sure I am up to cooking the whole kit and caboodle this year with my foot. Would hate to eat out but that might be the best thing.

    1. I felt like that comic was very true for me too!
sounds like this might be a good year for you to do a less traditional menu for Thanksgiving to make it easier on yourself. Maybe get takeout for at least some of it, or maybe other family members want to step up and do the cooking? I'm sure that being together to celebrate with the family will be the main focus and that's the important thing.

  5. SO glad your family is okay after their car accident; you're right all that insurance stuff is a hassle but health and wellbeing sure do take priority at a time like that. The photo of your granddaughter is so cute! My parents were up this weekend from North Carolina and they remarked on that uniquely fall small that we get up here that they noticed missing this fall in the south.

    1. It's a different smell and hard to describe, isn't it? Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
