Everyday Images #37

Welcome to another installment of my challenge and reminder to myself to take photos somewhat regularly. I'm not a photographer, but I enjoy taking everyday photos of things I find interesting or want to remember later, and I find that I notice interesting things when I'm intentionally watching for them. Having some prompts that are open to interpretation has helped me pay a little more attention to what's around me. Every two weeks I have a few words and phrases that I'm focusing on, and I try to find opportunities to take pictures of these things each week. These were the prompts I assigned myself for the past couple weeks:

remember - we happened to be in Gettysburg on the Memorial Day weekend.

far and/or near - the ant sculptures at Dawes Arboretum

blue - I sacrificed a bit of quality when I zoomed in, but this Blue Jay is a good representation of the prompt!

And a few bonus photos:

These were from Gettysburg, where we walked around the cemeteries for a bit. The memorials and the church cemetery next to it. This gravestone for a young child was poignant.

The purpose of the trip was to spend a bit of time with our kids in Maryland, and particularly this super-sweet granddaughter.

The family waving good-bye from the front porch is becoming sort of a tradition and I took a low-quality photo of them this time.

We had tickets to a ball game last week but it rained so I guess we'll go another time.

And a few more photos from Dawes Arboretum:

It doesn't quite look real in the photo above, but that is a Rose-breasted Grosbeak sighted at the Dawes. In the children's area inside the visitor center, they have this fabulous observation area into the garden where there is a water feature and lots of bird feeders. I want a window like this into a similar garden view in my next house.

When we went back to the car, we happened upon a juvenile flicker whose attempt at flight didn't go so well. It had a bit of a rough landing on the grass near us and awkwardly made its way to the tree. There were a couple of failed attempts to fly up to a climbing spot on the trunk, but it did get a good spot to start making its climb back up to safety, and the nest which we assumed was up high enough that we couldn't see it.

Happy June!

I am sharing my photos every other Tuesday, along with my prompts for the next two weeks. You can use all or some of the prompts for your own photo posts, or none of the prompts and just link up a post featuring your photos. Simple rules: Your posts must be family-friendly; the photos must be your own; and the post must be mostly photos. If you do share I'd appreciate a mention and link to A Fresh Cup of Coffee on your post.

Everyday Images continues in 2024, every other Tuesday. And on the alternate Tuesdays, I'm hosting the Twenty-Six Lists link-up. I'd love to have you join me for that too!

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!

    1. I almost always dislike photos of myself, particularly selfies. LOL I really have to force myself to take one every quarter for this challenge! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  2. Finally, I am linking up with you. Have had this photo challenge on my radar and in my heart for most of this year and today I finally have a post to share. Have photographed the list for June and will try to join you again next time. Thank you for hosting this and encouraging me to take time to 'smell' and photograph the roses.

Love the teacup coloring page. So cute. We visited Gettysburg about 20 years ago on the hottest summer day imaginable. Such a moving, hauntingly beautiful place.

Those bandana placemats sure are cute. I need to get my red, white and blue out today before the 4th sneaks up on me. Your grand angel is adorable. I know you loved being with that little doll.

    1. I'm so glad you linked up!

Gettysburg is about half an hour from where we lived in Maryland (and where our adult kids still live) so we've visited often over the years. Very moving no matter how many times I've seen it.

Thanks so much for your kind comments and for participating!
