Welcome to Twenty-Six Lists! I hope you'll join me in this simple link-up, where I share a writing prompt for some kind of list, and invite you to share what's on your list. Your list can be very simple or include lots of explanation; short or long; a bullet point list or essay style. Interpret the list prompts however you like, depending on how much time you have to spend, and how much background you'd like to share.
The list prompt this time around is Books. Your ten favorite books of all time? Your favorite childrens books, or favorites in a particular genre? A list of the books that you've read over and over? Or maybe books that surprised you or challenged you. Or just the list of books you've read so far this year. Any book-related list will work!
My original plan was to re-use my mid-month "What I'm Reading" post from my book blog and adapt it a bit. But that should have published yesterday, and I didn't do it, and today for some reason I've had trouble remembering that it was Tuesday. And that Tuesday I'm supposed to have a Twenty-Six Lists post ready to go. So, here is what I've read so far this year for the 52 Book Challenge. I should state that I knew I was highly unlikely to read 52 books this year, and I'll consider it a huge, huge win to read half that many! All the same, the challenge is fun and it does encourage me to pick up some books that I wouldn't consider otherwise and step out of the familiar a bit.
So far I've read:
The Juliet Code by Pepper Basham - while on their honeymoon trip in Italy, Frederick and Grace are asked to help solve a mystery involving stolen paintings. (Read my review HERE)
The Vanishing at Castle Moreau by Jaime Jo Wright - dual timeline story in which two young women are compelled to find out whether the ominous stories about the castle's curse are true. (Read my review HERE)
The Kamogawa Food Detectives by Hisashi Kashiwai - a father-daughter team run an unusual restaurant that specializes in recreating dishes from their clients' memories. (Read my review HERE)
Ticker by Lisa Mantchev - a steampunk YA novel in which a girl with a clockwork heart is in a race to reunite her family and find missing research, before her clock winds down. (Read my review HERE)
The Matrimonial Advertisement by Mimi Matthews - Helena answers a marriage advertisement hoping to find an escape from her life in London, and Justin gets much more than he'd bargained for when looking for a marriage of convenience. (Read my review HERE)
A Fatal Illusion by Anna Lee Huber - From my current favorite mystery series. Lady Kiera helps her husband Sebastian find the culprits that attacked his father and are responsible for other area crimes. (Read my review HERE)
The Crumbs Off Heaven's Table by D.M. Griffin - a historical novel based on the Canaanite woman who pleaded with Jesus to heal her demon-possessed daughter. (Read my review HERE)
Silencing the Siren (Ever After Mysteries) by Denise L. Barela - a retelling of The Little Mermaid with a mystery twist, set during the 1920s in New York City (Read my review HERE)
I'm currently reading:
Voice of the Ancient by Connilyn Cossette - historical novel set during the Biblical period right at the beginning of the reign of King Saul.
Once Upon A Prince by Rachel Hauck - Susanna waited for twelve years for a proposal from her boyfriend, but he broke up with her instead. And then this ordinary girl met a prince.
Wimpy Weak and Woke by John L. Cooper - Reading this a little at a time because I need time to think and digest!
The link-up is open for two weeks, with a new prompt every other Tuesday.

Thanks for linking up and sharing your reads at #WOYBS? I'm doing the 52 Book Club challenge too and I'm always interested in the books people select for the prompts. Silence of the Siren sounds interesting. I will make a note of that one and add to my ever-growing list TBR. Have a lovely weekend. x
ReplyDeleteIt was an interesting take on the fairy tale and I enjoyed it, but as you can see, I gave it only 3 stars. For a debut, I thought it was good. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteEven if you don't read 52 books it's still to follow along and see how many you can cross off; I love when I pick up a book to read and find that part way through it fits a prompt I had zero intention of using it for!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's always fun to see how something I'm reading fills a prompt I may not have expected. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteThank you so much for joining us for What's On Your Bookshelf. I haven't yet read any of the books that you have shared here but they each look compelling. 'Wimpy, Weak, & Woke: How Truth Can Save America from Utopian Destruction' particularly caught my eye. I will be checking that one out further.
ReplyDeleteAlthough that's the book that I'm taking the longest with, it is a good one - entertaining while challenging me to think. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteWhat I love about the 52 book challenge (even though I'm not posting my progress at this point) is how it encourages us to read outside normal genres. Thanks for linking up with us.
ReplyDeleteYes, even if I'll come nowhere near all 52 books, it's still encouraging me to read outside my usual choices. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteHi Kym, it's great to have you join us for #WOYBS and your list of titles for the prompts is commendable. I'm doing the challenge too and am loving the fact I'm reading books I wouldn't normally read and taking time to find books for the prompts. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I like about the challenge too, even if I'm in a season that makes 52 books a goal I can't manage. Thanks for stopping by to comment, and now I need to catch up on visiting and commenting on the others in the link-up!
DeleteThose look interesting Kym.
