Uh-oh, it's April already and I have yet to share Something Loved, Something Accomplished, Something Improved Upon, and Something Noticed for March! In my defense the weekend was very busy! I'm going to add Something Read as usual, but skip What's Coming Up Soon this month, because I don't really know, and maybe it will help me keep this just a tiny bit shorter so I can actually share!

Something Loved

No surprises here - I loved having family here to end the month, and we celebrated Resurrection Day together! The weekend wasn't the greatest weather, but we got out on one walk in the woods and the kids did go to the playground. We took in a hockey game while they were here too.

I love celebrating Jesus' resurrection and victory over sin and death!

Something Accomplished

I finally got my hair cut!

We managed to go on a few more walks recently, and I even went by myself on a guided birdwatching walk.

Something Improved Upon (Or that Needs Improvement)

My sleep habits, or sleep hygiene, as I've heard it called, could really use improvement. I've struggled with insomnia for more than a year now, and one of the new rhythms I was trying to establish was more consistent (and earlier) bedtimes. While I have been sleeping better, I still have trouble falling asleep, which is weird, because it's not that I'm worried or mind racing or anything like that. I'm just lying there wishing I could fall asleep but somehow not able to. I guess it's a harder habit to change than I'd expected!

Something Noticed (In our Lives or Around Town)

We can hear a train sometimes, which is very strange, since the nearest train tracks seem to be far enough away that we shouldn't be able to hear it. It would make a great ghost story, I suppose, but I'm sure there's a simple enough explanation.

We had noticed a pair of ducks hanging around the aparment awhile ago and wondered if Mrs Duck would try nesting under our dining room window again. She didn't, as far as we know, but on the weekend, we found that she had chosen a new spot - right beside our front door! There was one egg that first day, and as of Tuesday there were three. We do our best not to disturb her as we come and go, and I take a second as I go by to pray over her nest that the crows won't raid it this year!

Something Read

Here are the books I'm currently reading:

The Vanishing at Castle Moreau by Jaime Jo Wright
The Kamogawa Food Detectives by Hisashi Kashiwai
Wimpy Weak and Woke by John L. Cooper

I recently finished and reviewed:

A Fatal Illusion by Anna Lee Huber
Ticker by Lisa Mantchev

All of my reading news is at Just A Second if you're interested.

  1. Loving all your pictures today. Is that an eagle in the tree?

    1. Yes, I went on a birdwatching hike at a local metro park, and checking out the eagles at their nesting site was the highlight. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  2. It looks like you had a wonderful Easter with the family! I too have a problem with sleep lately (even though I never used to!)... I fall asleep just fine but can not stay asleep even though I feel tired and don't feel like I'm anxious or worried or anything. That Food Detectives book looks so cute!

    1. That sounds similar to my sleep problems. It all started with anxiety and upheaval, but continued to be an issue long afterwards. I can usually stay asleep now, but I have so much trouble getting to sleep in the first place! The Food Detective book is charming, and I'm enjoying it so far! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
