One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.
we want to see results!
the end result
best possible result
********************
I'm often too impatient for results. I suspect most of us are. When we start something new we want to see results right away and get frustrated when we don't. We wonder why it takes so long for someone to return our call, or make the adjustment to our account, or address our concerns. We fidget and fret waiting for the lab report after we've been to the doctor, and we want to feel better RIGHT AWAY when we start taking medicine.
I go on a diet but get frustrated when I don't see the number on the scale go down right away or as fast as I'd like. And then it's so tempting to think it's not making a difference anyway, so why bother, and eat something that's NOT on my plan. Guess what? When I get impatient and don't stay the course, I sabotage my own results!
Small daily improvements over time lead to stunning results. ~Robin Sharma
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. ~Albert Einstein
How many times do I sabotage the results of what the Holy Spirit is doing in my life? If I rush through my Bible reading or don't apply what the Word is teaching me, it's going to affect my life negatively. The fruit of the Spirit in my life, and the development of grace and wisdom in my life is the work of the Holy Spirit, but if I want to see that outcome, I need to be obedient and practice the spiritual disciplines that will bring results.
Every choice you make has an end result. ~Zig Ziglar
I need to be patient and disciplined if I want better lifestyle choices to result in noticeable changes in my health. I also need to be faithful and obedient, and trust God in everything in order to see the result I want in my character―becoming more like Jesus.
In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith―of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire―may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe on him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
~I Peter 1:6-9~

Oh I can certainly relate to the impatience with weight loss. I love your connection of patience and discipline to the scripture and in life.

DeleteIt's so hard to wait for those results whether it's weight loss or just plain old life. I know He has a plan for me, but, sometimes, I'd like a little hint!

Yes sometimes I really wish I could get a bit of a hint of what I should be doing! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI can also relate to the impatience to wait for results. I need to keep learning to slow down, to wait for God's timing. Yet, I don't mean waiting passively. He has given us things to do and has promised to be with us and give us strength. He's a good God and is so patient with us. Our results are in HIs hands! Blessings to you!
ReplyDeletevery good point - our waiting isn't to be passive or full of impatience! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteOh, my friend, I am so impatient...in everything and every way. Weight loss, yes. Working on creative projects, check. Awaiting results from lab work or imaging, very much so. And very impatient with inanimate objects. I want results now!! But on the days when I spend a few minutes of my morning visiting with God, I tend to be kinder, more patient, calmer. He puts me in the right frame of mind to face whatever comes my way.
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference that daily time spent with God can make in our lives! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

ReplyDeleteAn all time favorite quote.
Wanting results, wanting to know the news, how it turned out, whether I was right or not. Our desire to know is telling, isn’t it?
Yes, it does say something about us that we are so impatient, and often about things that don't really matter! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteI came back to try and read your post again. No pop-ups this time. 😊
ReplyDeleteCan so relate to "When we start something new we want to see results right away and get frustrated when we don't." Going through that right now.
