Wednesday Hodgepodge - March Motivation

A hodgepodge is a jumble or assortment of things that might not appear to belong together. Joyce at From This Side of the Pond hosts a weekly link-up called Wednesday Hodgepodge that is a little collection of questions for bloggers to answer just for fun and to get to know each other. I always look forward to chatting with friends over coffee, so pour a cup of your favorite and let's visit for a few minutes!

Here are this week's questions - and my answers - for this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge.

1.  What do you love most about March?

Hmm. I guess it just seems like a month with a lot of hope and joy. Not in 2025, but many years Passover/Resurrection Day are celebrated in March. Although it's possible we could still have a bit more snow, March is when we really see signs of spring with the days getting longer and warmer. We can pretty much count on daffodils, crocuses, and tulips coming up. Thanks to St Patrick's Day, we'll definitely see green! I enjoy having the lighthearted and sometimes silly celebration of St Patrick's Day, as well as Pi Day! The hockey playoff picture is getting set, and spring training begins for baseball (which, to be honest, wasn't always so fun when my kids were playing ball). So the whole month is full of things that keep me looking forward with anticipation.

2. Hey! Did you know March is National Celery Month? Do you like celery? What's something you make (or like to order out) that calls for celery?

I did not know about National Celery Month. Why does it get a whole month when other foods only get a day? I don't like celery, at least not raw. It's a texture thing. I like the flavor celery brings to things like soups and stews though, and I use celery salt or celery seed in cooking a lot. So I don't know if this counts as calling for celery, but there's a restaurant in Port Dover, Ontario that has a celery bread appetizer and we like it so much that I experimented with seasoning to make it myself. Which I haven't done now for a long time. Anyway, think of garlic bread - thick sliced sourdough bread toasted with an herb butter that is celery seed instead of garlic.

 3. __________ is the soundtrack to my life right now.

The songs I thought of are the ones that are stuck in my head or that I hear all the time, not necessarily descriptive of my life! I am kind of living and breathing "Jumpin' East of Java" and "Can't Help Falling In Love" because those are the songs we're polishing up in chorus. And Routines In The Night by Twenty One Pilots is one I hear a lot these days and really like.

4. Share a favorite motivational quote for overcoming challenges.

The best encouragement for getting through challenges is found in the Bible. The many promises that God is always with me, that he cares for me, that he gives me strength and courage and everything I need, and that whatever else may happen . . . God wins! Here's just a couple that came to mind:

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." ~Joshua 1:9

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. ~Romans 8:37-39

5.  The Hodgepodge lands on Ash Wednesday this year. Do you participate in Lent in some way? If so tell us more.

Wouldn't it land on Ash Wednesday every year? I don't do much participation in Lent, as far as being public about what I'm giving up or fasting. I believe fasting is important but I also believe it is usually a very private discipline of faith. I often follow a Bible reading and devotional plan that focuses on the Lenten themes during this time of year. I joked just last week that I celebrate Fat Tuesday but not Ash Wednesday, only because I love pancakes and fasnachts (or paczki or whatever the local Shrove Tuesday/Fat Tuesday treat may be) and it's a treat I don't often get throughout the year. I'm personally convicted against marking my forehead with ashes so I do not participate in that tradition at all.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Here's my slightly educational post at my homeschool blog about Fasnacht Day from a few years ago. Even though the day is past, and some of us may not be indulging in these treats during the Lenten season.

Also, here's my weekly invitation to join us at Wednesday Quotes. The current theme is First Impressions. Join us at WQ - First Impressions.

What do you love about March? Leave a comment and let me know!

    1. I like to do corned beef for St Patrick's Day, but not cabbage. I have a favorite Irish bread I bake, and personally I indulge in Lucky Charms for breakfast! LOL Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  5. It sounds like you have a lot to look forward to in March.
You are right, I can think of way better foods that deserve a month instead a of just a day that they get. hehehe
