On the 10th of each month, Marsha In the Middle asks ten questions for us to answer in as much or little detail as we wish. December is a busy month, and a stressful month for many, so it's quite understandable that that the prompt is a simple one - ten things about December that we love or that we really dislike. I'm joining this party pretty late in the day, so I'm keeping my list pretty short and in no particular order!
1. I love Christmas music! I love most of it, although of course there are some songs that annoy me. I have a Christmas playlist that has everything from traditional carols and classics to rock and pop versions. I love singing carols and the opportunities to perform in and to attend musical performances during the holidays.
2. I love Christmas movies!
3. I love decorating for the holidays and seeing holiday light displays!
4. I like that people are usually more cheerful and kind during the holiday season . . .
5. . . . but I really dislike that we can't just be good people all year round. I dislike that it feels like some people are just putting on a jolly act.
6. I love that there are more opportunities to be together with family.
7. I don't like the stress of having too much to do, too many things on the calendar, and feeling obligated to do things.
8. I don't like the very short days.
9. I like giving gifts to my people, even though I don't particularly like shopping for the gifts!
10. I love that there is an openness to the gospel during the Christmas season. Even though there's so much about the holiday that is commercialized and secularized, and the root of the traditions may be debated, it is still widely understood that the reason we have this holiday is because the birth of Jesus has been celebrated by believers for about two thousand years.

Hi Kym, I'm enjoying your newsletter. I'm not able to follow your great links, though. It sends me to a sponsored page, and I either have to sign up or close out of it. I enjoyed this post. One thing in addition to all of your items is that the blogging season slows down. I miss seeing people. Many of us slow down and do other things, myself included. I think we need more hours during December. :) xxx Have a great Christmas. Your tree is lovely! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me know about the newsletter - after I set up the subscription links I really didn't pay much attention so maybe I need to write myself a note to check it. Yes, having a little slower blogging schedule is helpful - I need to catch up! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteIt's always fun to see what we have in common with others!
ReplyDeleteI really like your #5, even if I didn't come up with it myself.
Have a lovely December and Christmas! :-)
It looks like many of us like a lot of the same things! Glad you found some common ground with some of my items. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteThis is a great list! I don't like the short, darker days either. I really start to miss the sunshine after just a couple of days.
ReplyDeleteI think the shorter days don't bother me as much when I'm not working. But this going to work and coming home in the dark routine is depressing! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteThere is definitely a lot to love about this season!
ReplyDeleteSo much indeed! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteI love Christmas carols! At my old church up north, we always had a Christmas carol singalong on Christmas Eve prior to the Midnight service. I loved that part the most. And, I agree with you about decorating (and undecorating as you mentioned on my post). It's also nice to see people treating others better, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem to last. One of my favorite things is my son (who now considers himself agnostic) goes to the candlelight service with me. He even sings along in German to "Silent Night" which I love.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up, Kym!

Candlelight and carols - beautiful combo! I always like when churches choose carols that we can actually sing along with. I love all the new arrangements, but feel like in church we should choose the more traditional so everyone can sing. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteI love the music this time of year too, especially the old classic hymns whose lyrics are so rich. We'll be seeing hubs brother next weekend and their church has their cantata that day, which I know I'll enjoy. Happy December!
ReplyDeleteIt's been awhile since I sang in or attended a good Christmas cantata. Hope you enjoy every minute of that! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
