Currently . . . August 11, 2024

At the beginning of each month I've been participating in the "Currently" link-up hosted at Overflowing With Thankfulness. Our hostess Jennifer posts a set of action verb prompts for the month and writers respond. So, without further ado, here are this month's prompts and what's happening currently . . .

***********

Loving - Things I'm loving right now include:

Sunsets, even though I can seldom photograph them, never mind photograph them well. (See my recent post WQ - Sunrise, Sunset for more thoughts on that.)

Pool days, especially when we're lucky enough to have the place mostly to ourselves. Pool days are almost always spent with family, and I think maybe having fun in the water with our granddaughter is helping us stay young at heart.

Flowers. These ones that I don't have to look after myself, just admire as I head to and from the pool.

And these ones that I've somehow managed to remember to water every day since my husband brought them home. That's a big deal for me - I do NOT have a green thumb!

We celebrated our anniversary just over a week ago, and while I love noting the date and doing something special each year, I love that after all these years we still enjoy each other's company and choose each other.

Looking forward to - vacation week! Just one week away now, we'll be at a nearby Vrbo vacation home with all of our kids and their families. We have some logistics to figure out, mostly about meals, but I think we're all very excited about this vacation plan! I hope that it works out well enough that we can make it sort of an annual thing.

Scheduling - I need to schedule a few appointments over the next couple of months. First on my list is the most difficult, which is a dentist appointment. Before I can make an appointment, I need to make sure I understand what's covered by my insurance. What upsets me is that this tooth is going to wind up costing me far more money than my knee replacement. That just ain't right.

Buying - as little as possible at the moment. July was an expensive month, and we have a vacation coming up, so we're trying to cut back where we can right now. I will be buying a few gifts for our granddaughter who just had a birthday, but other than that I'm trying to stick to just groceries and necessities for the rest of the month!

Gearing up for - the SVC show in just over a month! Rehearsals are focused on making sure everything is performance ready and I have some work to do with my personal rough spots in a couple pieces. On my list of things to do this weekend is check my costume pieces and make sure my dress fits.

If you're in central Ohio and are interested in barbershop singing, please check out our website: Scioto Valley Chorus
There is a link there for you to buy tickets to our show on September 14th and we would love to have you!

Here's a very abbreviated version of the Coffee Break Reading list . . .

Reading - currently reading these:

Sisters of Fortune by Anna Lee Huber
The Lady of Bolton Hill by Elizabeth Camden

More reading news and recent reviews are at Just A Second.

Quotable (I've enjoyed hunting up little quotes to add to my Five Minute Friday posts, and I do a regular Wednesday Quotes post based on interesting quotes, but I've still got such a collection that I have to keep sharing them!):

Life is like a prism. What you see depends on how you turn the glass. ~Jonathan Kellerman

I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow; but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing. ~Agatha Christie

Simple Meal Planning - Plan to Eat

  1. Enjoyed this catch up post. Hope you have a marvelous time on the family vacation. We are just home from our family beach trip and it was grand. I wanted to figure out all the food/meals/groceries, etc. but my daughters called me a 'boomer mom' and refused to cooperate. So we all bought our own groceries from which we fixed breakfasts and lunches. For PC and me, that was breakfast bars, fruit, lunch meat, cheese and bread for the most part. We picked up dinner the other nights and didn't step foot in a restaurant the whole week!!
Your sunset photo is lovely!! But I understand the difficulty in capturing God's artistry with our cameras. I am always disappointed when the moon is rising so large and bright and my photos don't do it justice.

    1. we're trying to strike a balance between planning details for the trip and just being open to whatever we want to do. We won't be far from town so it will be easy to run to the store or go out to eat if we choose. We just hope to not HAVE to do that!
Getting decent photos of the moon is always a challenge too! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  4. This has been a bad year for flowers, I think! I've had several of my flowers just die. My plants that are just foliage seem to be doing well. I am leaving Thursday for a 16 day trip to Ireland and Scotland. I had planned this trip before we knew my husband had to have his hip replaced. Luckily, my sons and daughter are stepping up to take care of him while I'm gone.

It is terrible that your tooth is costing more than a knee replacement. We have been lucky with our insurance and Medicare. My best friend who is still teaching has horrible insurance and has to constantly change medication in order to afford it. That's on the pharmaceutical companies, though!

    1. How exciting about your trip! I hope you have a wonderful time, and that your kids are going to make sure you husband is well looked after.
I'm hoping that with some research and advocacy, I can finish this dental work at a cost I can handle. At this rate, I should have got a gold tooth! LOL

    1. I've managed to keep a couple of plants on our patio alive this season - since all I had to do was keep them watered. It's a start! LOL Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
