Five Minute Friday - Reverse

One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.

put it in reverse
reverse effect
reverse course

When I review the photos I've taken and try editing them, it's comforting to know that I have that little "undo" arrow I can click to revert back to the original if needed. I can reverse whatever effect I tried if it doesn't look right. My blog editing screen and my google documents have a similar "undo" or "reverse" button.

It's easy to reverse an unfortunate edit to a photo or some really bad grammar in a document - as long as it hasn't been shared or published yet! But it's not nearly as easy to reverse the effects when we speak or act foolishly. Nor can we go back and get a "do-over" on life events, whether the effects we wish we could reverse are the results of our actions or someone else's. If I've wronged someone, I can repent and ask their forgiveness and try to make it right, but often the damage is done and can't be fully erased. Worse, we sometimes think we can fix the mistakes all by ourselves and no one will know, but those efforts sometimes wind up making things even more of a mess - the reverse effect!

"Although you wash yourself with soap and use an abundance of cleansing powder, the stain of your guilt is still before me," declares the Sovereign LORD.
~Jeremiah 2:22~

Much as we try, we cannot reverse the stains of our own sins and shortcomings! The only way to reverse the damage sin does is to trust God to clean us up and restore our relationship with him. We need to repent - or reverse course, if you will - and then walk in obedience.

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin!
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
~Psalm 51:2, 7, 10~

  1. Nice quotes and great Bible verses! I wish I had some do overs. But you´re right, we can always ask for forgiveness for those whom we´ve wronged.
