At the beginning of each month I've been participating in the "Currently" link-up hosted at Overflowing With Thankfulness. Our hostess Jennifer posts a set of action verb prompts for the month and writers respond. So, without further ado, here are this month's prompts and what's happening currently . . .

Loving - Now that we're on a summer schedule with our granddaughter being finished school and my husband not needing to work on weekends, I'm loving that we have a little more flexibility to do things together on the weekends, and even go on some day trips. At least we plan on doing some more of those - after a successful trip this past weekend!
Last weekend included a trip to the Dawes Arboretum.
On Saturday, hubby and I went up to Lake Erie to walk around a bit and enjoy a perch dinner. From there we went to Cleveland for a Calder Cup playoff game. We were rooting for the visiting Hershey Bears, but they didn't have a great game and the hometown Cleveland Monsters won.
And yesterday we checked out the new canopy walk at Blacklick Metro Park. We're looking forward to going back again, and hopefully enjoy it when it's not so crowded. It's wonderful to see so many people out there enjoying something so wholesome though!
Looking forward to - Last week my daughter told me that she plans to come for a visit in a couple weeks, so I'm very excited about that! We're now getting serious about trying to rent a cabin or vacation home for a week or so later in the summer and get the whole family together. We've narrowed things down enough that I think we'll book our cabin/house in the next day or two. Very excited!
Enjoying - less stressful commutes, at least my morning drive TO work! It's interesting that starting work just a half hour later has made such a difference in how heavy the traffic is, in general. I now take the "back road" route to work almost every day, meaning I don't have to start the day with the anxiety that comes from spending so much time dodging crazy drivers on the Interstate, and navigating all the lane changes and ramps in heavy traffic.
Seeing - our calendar fill up a little as we plan some day trips and vacations for the summer. Also seeing more birds (and insects) as it gets warmer. The local birds are gobbling up all the seed and suet I put out, and there's lots of potential for spotting birds on nature walks too. The red-winged blackbird and roosting cormorants were spotted at Huron on Saturday, and the woodpeckers at the Blacklick Metro Park on Sunday. We also saw the white squirrel at Blacklick. (There's also an albino squirrel at Blendon Woods, so I'm wondering how many other metro parks have a white squirrel! LOL)
Lounging around in - t-shirts and lightweight lounge pants most evenings. Sometimes capri length exercise leggings. The pool in our community opened on the long weekend, but we haven't gone over there to do any lounging around or swimming yet. It's not quite hot enough yet to make it truly tempting, so I haven't lounged around in a swimsuit this season!

Quotable (I've enjoyed hunting up little quotes to add to my Five Minute Friday posts, and I do a regular Wednesday Quotes post based on interesting quotes, but I've still got such a collection that I have to keep sharing them!):
And in order to simplify a little, I'm including my contribution to the Wednesday Quotes link-up hosted by Marsha at Always Write as part of this post, since my quotes this week are related to reading. I just picked out some favorites. Enjoy!
Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are. ~Mason Cooley
My father used to say that stories are part of the most precious heritage of mankind. ~Tahir Shah, in Arabian Nights: A Caravan of Moroccan Dream
. . . we must read, not only for what we read but for what it makes us think. ~Louis L'Amour
I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! ~Jane Austen
The reason that fiction is more interesting than any other form of literature, to those who really like to study people, is that in fiction the author can really tell the truth without humiliating himself. ~Eleanor Roosevelt
Always read something that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it. ~P.J. O'Rourke
Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read. ~Groucho Marx

I always love your posts, Kym. I love the Eleanor Roosevelt quote, but the dog quote is a great second, and the quote about dying mid-book is hilarious, too. It sounds like your summer is off to a great start. My husband grew up in Jamestown, NY, and I think that is a hop, skip, and a jump from Lake Erie. That is one of the Great Lakes I've never seen. I'm sure it is lovely in the summer!
ReplyDeleteMy husband's family lives in southern Ontario, so a lot of our trips to Ontario included a day at Lake Erie and I learned to really love the fried perch. There is a lot of great scenery around the lakes too. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteYour photos are always so interesting. I also hate driving on interstates, but it's hard to get anywhere without getting on one for a little bit.

Interstates do seem like a "necessary evil" don't they? I avoid them during my local commuting as much as possible, but they sure make cross country trips faster! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteAll of your day trips look wonderful! I hope you manage to get the whole family together for a vacation. That will be so much fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty optimistic that it wil work out and I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
