Wednesday Hodgepodge - Food and Fun

This post may contain affiliate links - using affiliate links from A Fresh Cup of Coffee helps continue the coffee breaks and conversation.

A hodgepodge is a jumble or assortment of things that might not appear to belong together. Joyce at From This Side of the Pond hosts a weekly link-up called Wednesday Hodgepodge that is a little collection of questions for bloggers to answer just for fun and to get to know each other. I always look forward to chatting with friends over coffee, so pour a cup of your favorite and let's visit for a few minutes!

Here are this week's questions - and my answers - for this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge.

1.  What are you currently juggling in your life?

I've got two stacks of plates I'm trying to keep spinning. One is the things I need to do (household tasks, planning, organizing, work), and the other is the things I want to do (blogging, reading, music).  I'm sure it would be easier if I wasn't always fighting the distractions of games and the rabbit trails that seem to come up!

2. How often do you buy new clothes? What was the last piece of clothing you purchased?

I don't buy clothes very often, and I don't have any set times of year. I don't get new pieces to update my wardrobe each season. If I think I need to replace something or add something, I'll go shopping with that in mind, but most of the time I just pick up items here and there if I notice something on sale or see something I really want. The last thing I purchased was a t-shirt with a cute graphic.

3. What food festival would you most like to attend? If you need help here are links to some of the bigger and more popular food events around the world - Ten Food Festivals Worth Traveling to Find - 2024 Best Food and Drink Festivals and Events in the US - 20 Popular Food Festivals Around the World in 2024 For Your Unconditional Love of Food

We used to talk about possibly going on a barbecue road trip, or going to one of the barbecue competitions, so that's my first thought. We've gone to a couple of food truck festivals and those are fun. Let me check out the links and see what catches my eye . . .  Salon du Chocolat in Paris and Pizzafest in Naples are the international ones on the list that look delicious.

From the local food truck festival we went to last weekend:

Chicken shawarma

Indian Fry Bread Pizza

4. May is the 5th month of the year. Tell us something you remember about your 5th grade year.

Fifth grade . . . my teacher was Mrs Pistore and I was in a split grade classroom. There were about half a dozen fifth graders and the rest of the class were fourth graders. I believe the reason was that there were too many in my grade for one classroom but not enough for two, so a few of us that were good students and could work well independently were in the split grade class for some subjects. The only thing I remember clearly about school was music class. We had a folder of mimeographed song lyrics. The silly songs were our favorites - "Mairzy Doats" and "I've Got a Loverly Bunch of Coconuts" - and I remember "Born Free" was one we sang often as well. Oh, and I remember that I particularly hated my class picture that year - it was SO cringe-worthy!

5.  What are your favorite five words right now?
  • family
  • vacation
  • restaurant
  • hope
  • belonging
6. Insert your own random thought here.

We're going to visit the kids in Maryland for the long weekend, and I'm so excited to see them again! We've also got plans to see a few friends, and one thing I'm looking forward to is playing on our daughter's worship team on Sunday.

Just a few photos from the weekend - went to Buckeye Lake and happened to see a family of duck family and a Canada Goose family. Then went to Timbuk Farms where my granddaughter climbed the hay bale mountain and did some "bobsledding" with her mom and dad.

Simple Meal Planning - Plan to Eat

  1. That is a cool memory from 5th grade (the split class). We have quite a few food truck type festivals around us rather than large food festivals. I definitely prefer the food truck festivals due to them not having large crowds of people. That hay bale mountain looks fun!

    1. I do like the food truck festivals - it's a good chance to try some samples of several different things. I do wish they offered "sampler sizes" though! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  2. I don't have any food fests to recommend but in some ways we are doing a BBQ road trip when we go through St. Louis and Kansas City this summer. The plan is to eat a lot of it!

  7. We have some geese who have been hanging out on our shoreline recently. They're cute but I want to shoo them away since they're so messy. Have a wonderful trip to Maryland and fun with your family!

    1. I do actually prefer the ducks hanging around to the geese. I like the geese but they are messy and can be aggressive too. Thanks for the good wishes, and I hope you have a great weekend too!
