Monthly Musings - WQ: Summertime

Holly at Pink Lady and Patty at Good Better Best co-host this monthly sharing of tips, tricks, and conversation starters. While I was musing about these, I collected some quotes about summer so I could add my WQ musings to the same post.

What are you looking forward to this summer?
Our vacation and weekend plans are all still rather vague, but I am looking forward to doing a little bit of traveling and spending summer days with family and friends.

Favorite summer traditions:
I can't really think of any specifically summer traditions we have, other than what I'm starting to refer to as "Fireworks Week". We celebrate Canada Day on July 1st, and Independence Day on July 4th, and our daughter's birthday is that week as well. We love fireworks so planning where to see fireworks shows is a summer tradition I enjoy.

Favorite summer recipe? Please share!
We like to grill and smoke during the summer so those are favorite summer recipes. Last year I made chicken salad for the first time in many years and I really liked the recipe I used. I plan to make another big batch this weekend, I think.

Summer vacation plans?
As I said, nothing is firmed up yet, but we are going to try renting a cabin or vacation home and have the whole family join us. We have tentative dates to work with and have narrowed down some of the options, so hopefully we can make that work! My husband and I are also still toying with the idea of going out west to meet up with some friends for a long weekend or something. Don't know if that will happen or not. The one thing we have planned that does at least have a firm date is a trip back to Maryland for my husband to play in a hockey tournament in July.

Cole slaw or potato salad? Recipe to share?
I don't like cole slaw at all, and really don't care for potato salad either.

Favorite ice cream or frozen treat?
How would I ever choose a favorite? I love ice cream of all descriptions. Nothing like a good hot fudge Sundae.

Beach, lake, or mountains?
My preference would be the mountains, but I suspect I'd be overruled by the family. I like the beach but I don't absolutely adore it. That said, I can find things to love about any vacation destination!

Best ways to beat the heat in summer?
Air conditioning! Haha! Sitting on a shady porch if there's a little bit of a breeze and it's not too muggy. With a cold drink in hand, of course.

Favorite sunscreen?
I don't have a favorite, but I kind of prefer a spray-on to a lotion.

I'm participating in the Wednesday Quotes link-up hosted by Marsha at Always Write and decided to just add a few quotes and thoughts about summer to my Monthly Musings post. I mean, I'm musing on summer anyway, so it makes sense! (Marsha has decided to choose themes for her posts as she goes, and has invited those of us who participate to simply include a quote in our post and choose our own themes as well.)

The sun does not shine for a few trees and flowers, but for the wide world's joy. ~Henry Ward Beecher

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time. ~John Muir

Summer's lease hath all too short a date. ~William Shakespeare

Summer is a promissory note signed in June, its long days spent and gone before you know it, and due to be repaid next January. ~Hal Borland

I don't know if you're like me and each year you find yourself looking at the end of August on your calendar, and wondering where the summer went. So many plans for things we wanted to do but it seems like summer is always over too quickly. Enjoy every moment, and know that the season will come round again!

As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.
~Genesis 8:22~

  1. I agree on sunscreen sprays over lotions- less messy and so much easier!
