Twenty-Six Lists - Must-See Childhood TV

This post may contain affiliate links - using affiliate links from A Fresh Cup of Coffee helps continue the coffee breaks and conversation.

Welcome to Twenty-Six Lists! I hope you'll join me in this simple link-up, where I share a writing prompt for some kind of list, and invite you to share what's on your list. Your list can be very simple or include lots of explanation; short or long; a bullet point list or essay style. Interpret the list prompts however you like, depending on how much time you have to spend, and how much background you'd like to share.

I must admit, I didn't plan ahead this week and was doing other things on the weekend, so now I'm trying to decide whether to stay up later than I'd like and do my list, or just do a quick post with a link and update it a little later. I think I'll do the latter and hope I find the time tomorrow evening to add some photos!

For this list I was thinking it would be fun to discuss games we enjoyed playing when we were kids, or TV shows we liked in our younger years. Dating myself, but I grew up during a time when Saturday morning cartoons was a big deal. I do remember watching TV with my brother and many of our favorite shows, and those memories are actually clearer than the games we played. So, I'm going to focus on the TV shows I loved when I was a kid and teenager!

Must See TV (For a Younger Me!):

Cartoons - the classic Saturday morning cartoon line-up was a weekly staple, but even more important was the Saturday evening routine! We watched the Bugs Bunny - Roadrunner hour every week, and often we argued about which of us would have our bath first, because we also didn't want to miss Hockey Night in Canada which was on right after Bugs Bunny. This was also the one evening a week that Mum let us eat in the living room.

Children's Shows - I remember watching The Buck Shot Show when I was very young. This was a local children's show that debuted when I was just a toddler, but I remember watching it when I would come home from school at lunchtime. Since this was so local, I'm including a clip for reference! There were some other Canadian shows for little kids that I remember too - The Friendly Giant and Mr Dress-up. And of course, Sesame Street and The Electric Company and Mr Rogers' Neighborhood.

Kid-friendly sitcoms - This list could be very long so I'll try to limit to the most watched! Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch were the two that we watched all the time, and they were in sindication showing during the after school hours for many years. In the evenings, we'd watch Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley. I was a little older when I started watching M*A*S*H*.

What TV shows or games do you remember fondly from your childhood? Please share.

The link-up is open for two weeks, with a new prompt every other Tuesday.

  1. I do remember Laverne and Shirley and Happy Days too; though I am sure I was mostly watching those during syndication.

    1. I no longer remember which shows I watched at least partly in their original run, and which were in syndication. Isnt that sad? LOL I bet many were both. Certainly many of the older ones must have been in syndication. Thanks for stopping by and reminiscing with me!
