Monday evening will be the Scioto Valley Chorus holiday party. It will be a potluck dinner and if the fare at the summer party was any indication, there will be lots of delicious food! It was also suggested that we wear our Christmas pajamas! Since I don't have pajamas that are specifically Christmas-y, I will probably wear cozy winter PJs and my Christmas sweater.
Blue might be my favorite color. I don't currently have a lot of it in my home, and as much as I'd love to paint, we're renting so that won't happen! My china is blue (see my coffee cup photo!) and my bedroom decor is also blue. I like all three Colors of the Year, but my favorite is Blue Nova. If I had the choice to do so, I would definitely paint my bedroom that color!

I guess I do . . . a little. I sometimes get a little down when the weather is gloomy, cold, and wet. Snow is fine with me, but cold rain and drizzle are not! But it's more than the weather. It's hard to get jolly and motivated during the holiday season when we're not with our loved ones and we still aren't quite "at home". I guess the nostalgia of remembering Christmas past and missing people and home can bring on some blues. This year is obviously a lot better (so far anyway!) than last year.
I like to listen to music, and make an effort to do things that get me out of the house and out of my own head. I'm glad that we don't have a long list of obligatory things to do, and we can really enjoy the parties and activities that we choose to do. So I guess I am trying to look at the positive aspects of the holiday season being so different from those of the past.
I love jeans! Not all my jeans are blue, but I think I have about a dozen pair. My favorites are the Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans. I found them pretty cheap at BJs a few years ago and they were really comfortable, so at that price I started buying them in different colors and they make up about half of my jeans collection.
I'm probably at 2.5, maybe a 3 if I'm lucky. I've decorated the house, but I'm not even finished doing that. I've got some Christmas lists to shop from, but have barely started. Obviously nothing is wrapped. I've attended a couple of holiday events. I've thought about sending Christmas cards but have done exactly nothing about it. The only thing I'm doing really good with is listening to Christmas music and watching Christmas movies!
I finally wrote something for my homeschool blog again: Waiting For Saint Nicholas in 2023. To be accurate, I updated an old post, so I didn't really write much that was new. I feel bad about neglecting that blog now since I spent so my time and energy building it up in years past.
How are your holiday preparations going? Leave a comment and let me know!
Being away from family at the holidays is so hard. I struggle to let go of traditions and have been learning (it's taking years lol) that is something I must do in order to enjoy the now. We won't have our girls with us this year, but we have known all year, so we made plans to be with my whole extended family and I'm excited about that. We have settled on an every other year with the kids so the in-laws have a turn and knowing that's the plan helps me adjust and feel peace about it. I hope you have a happy Christmas and enjoy your choir party.
ReplyDeleteWe are very lucky that sharing or taking turns with the in-laws hasn't caused any real friction in our family. So far anyway! Mostly because travel isn't much of an issue. We may have to make a schedule someday. In the meantime, I guess I will need to do as you suggest and decide that some of the traditional holiday things are no longer working as our family grows and changes. DeleteThis was such a nice read this morning, Kym! The Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans are my favorites also. I really like the way they fit and although I have bought some on deals at Kohls and other stores, I find them at the thrift store very often. I have at least five or six pairs of them in different colors.
ReplyDeleteI always think deflated Christmas inflatables are some of the saddest sights out there. And I totally relate to that reindeer.
I saw a photo of deflated Christmas inflatables but with an inflatable Yoda still standing in the center of them - captioned something like "how to win at holiday inflatables"! Other than that, they do look so very sad when they're flat or sagging, don't they? Thanks for stopping by and commenting - and making me chuckle!
DeleteFor the things I haven't done, I do have lists and preparations so I guess that does count for something!
ReplyDeleteIf I can count making lists, I guess I could get to a 3 out of 10 on the holiday preparation scale! haha Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteYep, I have a few pairs of those Amanda jeans, too. Your Christmas potluck sounds like a fun time in relaxing garb! Enjoy. Music definitely helps me brighten up. Hope the blues stay away and the joy increases!
ReplyDeleteThose jeans seem to be really popular! I hope the blues stay away as well, or at least under control. May you have a joyful holiday season as well!
DeleteThose Amanda jeans used to be my favorite too! I love jeans and seem to always be wearing either jeans or black yoga pants. We have lots of blue all throughout our house too (including our kitchen plates) because I just love all shades of blue.
ReplyDeleteJeans are a lot more comfortable nowadays than they used to be, but yes, I still change into yoga pants or "pajama" pants when I'm at home as well. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteWe just painted two bedrooms. One is called Valiant Blue but looks green to me. The other is Silvermist and is definitely blue so I guess I'm team blue! At our house in NE IN, my bedroom was all manner of colors over the 30+ years we lived there. The last house...the bedroom was lavender and then a grey. This house...I'm just happy to get rid of the Antique White we had the builder paint it. It's funny how a color you liked in small doses you learn to dislike very much when your whole house is that color!
ReplyDeleteAs for Christmas, I'm all done decorating and mostly done shopping. Now comes the hard part...baking the cookies! It's not that it's hard. The hard part is not eating them! I've struggled with my weight for the last two years, and I'm finally making some moves in the right direction. So, the Christmas baking will be difficult!

We never did paint the bedroom at our last house - 20+ years and never got around to it! And now we're stuck with the very light taupe walls in a rental. :sigh: I hear ya about it being tough to not EAT the cookies! I'm the same way. Holiday calories shouldn't count!
