This month at the Not Just A Mom Link-up we're being asked to answer the question, "What's in your handbag?" I'm going to attempt to answer the question as briefly as possible, but here's the thing - my handbag is ever changing!
For many years now, I've tried to get away from carrying a purse or handbag as much as possible. I have a phone case that has room for an ID, a couple of cards and a bit of money, and usually that's all I need with me. My phone and my keys go in a pocket and I'm good.
But often I do feel like it would be a smart idea to have a few other things with me, or maybe I don't have pockets in what I'm wearing, so here's my handbag master plan.
I have a small tote bag (from Mixed Bag) that is the catchall. If I'm going to chorus rehearsal, my small purse, my music, and my water bottle goes in it. If I'm going to church, my small purse and my Bible goes in it (and my music and earbuds, if I'm on worship team). If I'm going to work, my lunch and my small purse goes in it. Any other place I go, if I do take the tote or mini-purse with me, it probably stays in the car and only the phone gets carried on my person.
My small purse is a little Vera Bradley bag, and I admit it's getting a bit frayed in spots, but I still like it. It's barely big enough to hold the extras beyond those cards that go in my phone case. Right now the contents include: a small wallet, my checkbook, my glasses and sunglasses, a couple of pens, a tin of mints, a nail file, and lip balm. And more than likely some loose change and random receipts that I haven't cleaned out in awhile!
And this is my mini lunch bag. It's an insulated bag I bought from Tupperware some years ago, and I like that it looks like a purse. In fact, I sometimes used it as a purse - lunch and my wallet and keys all in the same bag! When I go to work, I stick some snacks and a drink in this bag, along with an ice pack, and put it in my tote bag. That little Vera Bradley bag sits on top of it and I am set for the day.
I remember how excited I was years ago when my youngest didn't need for me to take a diaper bag with me everywhere! What freedom! But I went back and forth between little purses and roomy handbags and couldn't decide what I liked best. I guess I still am slightly undecided, but I sure prefer to not have anything to carry beyond what can fit in my pocket! (Which may be why I love pockets so much!)
What's in your handbag? Do you prefer something as small as possible, or roomy enough for all your stuff? Leave a comment and let me know!

I switch back and forth too depending on what I'm doing.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to be flexible! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteI almost always leave my purse in the car and just grab my wallet, keys, and cellphone too as long as I have pockets for them.
ReplyDeleteOh I love pockets! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteI have a pretty small bag but also big enough to fit what I need!
ReplyDeleteSo nice to find that perfect size! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteI have lots of handbags of varying sizes. I'm not one of those women who changes our their purses on a daily basis. I change when the mood strikes. Most of my purses are rather large but empty because I don't have to carry all those Mom things anymore! That was truly a relief to give up a diaper bag and then the other things as the kids got older...though part of me misses being needed that way!

I used to have SO many handbags and purses and changed often, but I wound up going to the same two or three anyway. And yes, there's always parts of being needed as Mom that I miss. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteI have a lot of bags too. I used to use a tote bag all the time and carry a lot in it until it started to hurt my shoulder. I know like to carry around a crossbody handbag. I enjoyed this post and thanks for stopping by my blog. Enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteI knew my totebags/handbags were too big when they started to hurt my shoulders. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteI usually use a small backpack instead of a purse. You never know when you need to pick something up at the shops....or when a great hike is just around the corner! :D
ReplyDeleteI guess it's a good idea to always be prepared for a hike! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
