See, I have taught you decrees and laws as the LORD my God commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to take possession of it. Observe them cafefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about all these decrees and say, "Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people." What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the LORD our God is near us whenever we pray to him? And what other nation is so great as to have such righteous decrees and laws as this body of laws I am setting before you today?
Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.
Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the LORD is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other. Keep his decrees and commands, which I am giving you today, so that it may go well with you and your children after you and that you may live long in the land the LORD your God give you for all time.
~Deuternomy 4:5-9, 39-40~
There's much that modern Christians can learn from Moses' final charge to Israel before they entered their promised land. Following God's commands demonstrates wisdom and justice, and bring peace and harmony to his people. What a tremendous blessing it is that our God hears our prayers and is with us! Don't forget all the good things we've seen God do, and make sure to always be grateful and to teach all of these things to the next generations. Live each day knowing that God is Lord of everything, and that He alone deserves our worship.
There is so much to absorb there. We need to read this passage often.
