In spring I did one of these 'Day in the Life' posts for the Share Our Lives link-up, and now it's time to do one that I'll link up at Joyce's blog From This Side of the Pond. I didn't document just one day in detail, but took most of my ordinary day photos over two weekdays, and this tour through one of my ordinary weekdays is a summary of how they usually go.
6:30am - Yawn and stretch, and get up. I have never been a morning person, but long years of getting up about this time have turned me into a reluctant morning person. Hubby and I get up about the same time and get ready for work. I get dressed and wash my face, then go downstairs to assemble lunches and pour coffees. He leaves by 7, and by 7:15 or so I've finished getting ready and have a little time for a morning coffee and devotional. And I usually have a couple minutes to take a quick look at blogs or email, and maybe update my to-do list for the day.
7:45am - Theoretically, this is when I need to be out the door to get to work. On good weather days, I can usually still make it if I'm driving by 8. We've just hit the time of year when the car might need to warm up a bit, and there might be a bit of snow or frost to clear off the windows. Then I really need to be driving by 7:50. Most mornings I listen to the RadioU morning show on my drive.

8:30am - Arrive at work and start the day. I usually start by going through emails and doing any follow-ups from those and from the day before. Then I often spend some time chasing down open COD and credit invoices, and working on refund requests.
10:30am or so - I take a short morning break, which includes a walk through the warehouse up to the front sales desk to pick up any invoices there and then to the dispatch office next to mine to get all the previous day's manifests. Then I spend the next few hours reconciling all those invoices and payments, closing the manifests, and preparing the daily deposits. Oh, and the whole day I take phone calls from drivers and customers calling in payments or getting authorizations for CODs or exchanges, and all kinds of other things. I have podcasts or music playing on my phone throughout the day to keep my company.
12:30 - 1pm - This is my official lunch break time, though it's very often a bit later that I actually get away. Depending on what I'm eating, I might stay in my office, or I'll go up to the break room. I kind of prefer the break room, because I get a few more steps in and there's a patio out the breakroom door. If it's nice out, I like to eat outside, but even if the weather isn't suitable, I sit near the door so I can see a bit of sky. I always read during my lunch break.
1pm - Back to the office to finish the manifests and daily deposits. Oh yeah, and don't be jealous at how fancy my office is!
3pm ish - Another break and time to stretch my legs a little bit. Then back to the desk to see how many tasks I can finish before the end of the day.
5-6pm - My official end of the workday is 5pm, but some days I stay a little later. The drive home almost always takes a bit longer than the drive to work for some reason. While driving home I often play the recording from the most recent chorus rehearsal and do a little rehearsing as I drive. On occasion I listen to a podcast or audiobook, or I talk with a friend. I have a standing phone call date with one of my best friends and we try to connect every week. Often I have to stop on the way home to pick up a few groceries or get gas. I keep telling myself to make use of the grocery store's order ahead feature in the app to save myself the time, but then I'd have to spend the time in the app placing my order, and that's not how I want to spend my lunch break!

6-7pm - Depending on the day and what time I get home, we eat dinner between 6:30 and 7pm. If I'm smart and have planned the menu ahead of time, we can be efficient or hubby can get dinner started since he gets home before me. Sometimes I get in a quick nap while dinner is in the oven or after it's cleaned up.
On Mondays, I usually have chorus rehearsal. If I need to be there a little earlier, I'll just go straight from work. Even if I come home first, I don't sit down to dinner, but just grab a quick snack. So I call Mondays "shoot yer own" on the meal planner! Mondays are long days, since I don't get home from chorus until at least 10:30, but I love it!
On Wednesdays, I go straight to church from work and meet hubby there for Dinner + Discipleship. Dinner is a delicious meal that I don't have to cook or clean up after, and I love it. We're usually home before 9 too, so the rest of the evening goes like the typical at-home day.
Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays are usually those so-called 'typical' days, and this time of year we usually just spend those evenings at home, maybe watching a show or at the computer, and doing whatever household tasks I have the energy for.
Evening in general - Sometime after dinner is cleared away, we start wrapping up the day much like we started it - with a cup of coffee!
Bedtime routine - At the end of the day, I do some prep of the next day's lunches, and get the coffee ready to go in the morning. Showers, laundry, checking the calendar and to-do lists, maybe a phone call with a family member, are all things that might happen during the last little bit of the day. Then it's finaly time to crawl into bed and read a little bit (or maybe a lot, if it's a real page-turner) and get a bit of shut-eye.
Now before I go to bed, I need to link this up at A Day In The Life - Autumn 2025, the link-up hosted by Joyce at From This Side of the Pond. Please be patient with me as I find time to visit the other bloggers in this and other link-ups. As you can see, I don't always have the time on weekdays to get to everyone right away!
