Wednesday Hodgepodge - PB & HP

A hodgepodge is a jumble or assortment of things that might not appear to belong together. Joyce at From This Side of the Pond hosts a weekly link-up called Wednesday Hodgepodge that is a little collection of questions for bloggers to answer just for fun and to get to know each other. I always look forward to chatting with friends over coffee, so pour a cup of your favorite and let's visit for a few minutes!

Here are this week's questions - and my answers - for this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge.

1.  What does patriotism mean to you?

Patriotism is love for and loyalty to my country above all other countries. Wanting my country and its people to prosper, and being proud of the good things in our cultural heritage. As an American, I am unashamedly "America First". I have great respect and and affection for many other countries, especially my home country of Canada, but my first duty and loyalty is to the United States.

2. September - October - November . . . your favorite fall month? Tell us why. If you live in the southern hemisphere use these months but sub spring for the word fall.

I guess October is my favorite fall month. Usually the peak fall colors happen during October. The first round of Thanksgiving that we celebrate happens mid-October, and so do our two oldest sons' birthdays. The weather is generally still warm enough that we can enjoy being outside without needing to bundle up, and the nights tend to be pleasantly chilly. Just enough to allow me to enjoy wearing flannel and to remind me that winter is coming. I have a lot of vacation memories too, since we used to take our big family vacation in October.

3. A song you love with the word thanks (or some form of that word) in the title or lyrics?

Gratitude by Brandon Lake has been a favorite since I first heard it.

4. November is National Peanut Butter Month. Are you a fan? What's the last peanut butter bite you had? Fill in the blank: peanut butter and ________________.
(Oh, and you can't say jelly.)

I love peanut butter and could eat it every day. I do eat it almost every day! I have a spoonful of peanut butter and honey almost every evening before bed so the last bite I had was yesterday. And  that's how I fill in the blank - peanut butter and honey!

5.  This week's gratitude question - what event from this past year are you most grateful for?

At the moment, I'm so very grateful that I took the time to travel to Manitoba in the spring and visit my aunts. They are in their late 90s and not in the best of health, and a couple weeks ago one of them fell and was taken to the hospital. She is now on comfort care only, and my mom has gone to be with them during these last days. The other aunt is 97 and very frail so . . . I'm so very glad I went to visit when I did.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Keeping this real short since I need to get ready to share A Day In The Life for tomorrow's link-up. And I have two book reviews to write too, though there's no deadline for those. I just want to get them done while the newly finished story is still pretty fresh.

So here's a brief reminder that I'd love to have you stop by the current Wednesday Quotes link-up and share a few thoughts and quotes on the theme of Good Manners. You can find it here: WQ - A Matter of Manners. The Everyday Images photo link-up is open for your photo posts too.

What are you grateful for this week? Leave a comment and let me know!
