Share Four Somethings - June 2026

Each month we're each invited to share things in these categories: something we loved, something that sustained us, something we're carrying forward from this month to the next, and something we're making space for. I usually like to include a little bit of a bonus: Some Things I  Read and a little of What's Coming Up Soon

Some Things I Loved:

Oh goodness, there were so many things I loved in June! We started the month by finally moving into our house, and although there's still a lot to do in terms of unpacking and furnishing and settling in, we love it here!

It was only about a week after move day that we went on vacation. Timing was a little odd, but that's how it worked out, and I loved our time in the Niagara Falls area and especially loved spending time with the whole family. I loved that my Mum and Dad joined us this year and were able to spend that vacation week with us and their grandkids and great-granddaughters. We had so much fun together!

Something That Sustained Me:

Honestly, it was usually adrenaline and momentum that kept me going during the moving process. It was go - go - go for about two weeks straight with packing and preparing, the actual moving, and cleaning out the apartment. Hard deadlines were a big motivator too!

Something I'm Carrying Forward:

I have a long list of wonderful memories made during the vacation week and the time spent with Mum and Dad that I will be savoring in the days ahead. Gratitude for family and how faithful God has been in and through us, and how he has blessed us.

Something I'm Making Space For:

As we chip away at the many boxes that still need to be unpacked, and get more settled about what belongs where, we're finding more space to move in the house. We're also assessing the space we have as we make decisions about what furniture to add or to replace and where it goes.

Some Things I Read:

Finished and reviewed these since my last SFS:

The Muse of Maiden Lane by Mimi Matthews - I did finish but haven't posted anything on my book blog for a month so no review of this yet.

Here are the books I'm currently reading:

Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
The Paper Wife by Laila Ibrahim

All of my reading news is at Just A Second if you're interested. (Well, this past month's isn't, because there really isn't any news - I didn't really do any reading, being so busy with other things!)

What's Coming Up Soon?

Canada Day (okay, that was today - I didn't get this finished to post earlier) and Independence Day! I'm really excited for America's 250th birthday celebrations! I love fireworks and I love all the patriotic things, and I just wish I could attend all the fun things everywhere. Our calendar will probably be pretty calm though, since we've just wrapped up a really full month with lots of changes and a vacation and time with family (and money spent!) so we have no travel plans and will mostly be keeping it more on the low-key side.

Take Me Home to the Hodgepodge

A hodgepodge is a jumble or assortment of things that might not appear to belong together. Joyce at From This Side of the Pond hosts a weekly link-up called Wednesday Hodgepodge that is a little collection of questions for bloggers to answer just for fun and to get to know each other. I always look forward to chatting with friends over coffee, so pour a cup of your favorite and let's visit for a few minutes!

Here are this week's questions - and my answers - for this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge.

1.  What do you love most about your country?

I love the history and how it underscores the bold faith and resolve that brought about its founding, the reliance on God and on each other, and commitment to individual freedoms. While America isn't perfect, and we have challenges and conflicts, it is still the greatest country on earth, and there isn't any other place with the same promise of individual rights, freedoms, and opportunities. God bless America!

2. Your favorite patriotic song?

This is a toss-up between God Bless America and America the Beautiful. I love them both. I don't know that they are patriotic, exactly, but I also love songs like Take Me Home Country Roads and Proud to Be An American and many others like them. I've paid only a very little attention to the World Cup, but I absolutely love that Take Me Home Country Roads has become the anthem of the tournament! It's always been one of my favorite sing-along songs!

3. Red, white, or blue? Stars or stripes? Something you own besides a US flag with some combination of those colors or decorations as part of its design?

Blue is usually my pick for most things. Stars or stripes kind of depends - I prefer stars. I have some patriotic decor that is inspired by the US flag but isn't it exactly. Also this fun "Red Wine and Blue" wall hanging that was included with a patriotic themed wine basket I won in a raffle awhile back. I saved it as a "housewarming gift"

4.  What's one thing you want more of this summer: fun, rest, adventure, connection, quiet, or confidence? Elaborate.

Trying to decide between rest and connection, though I could also make a case for wanting more confidence. I also gravitate towards wanting more rest because it seems like I always have one more thing to do and I often don't manage my time well to include appropriate rest times. And on top of it, I don't often sleep well.  Connection, because I want to be able to spend time with family and friends as much as possible. And confidence, because I'm currently feeling like I'm behind on learning the choreo moves for chorus, and I need to catch up and feel confident in how I'm doing.

5.  What was your ultimate, go-to summer activity when you were a kid? Do you still do any version of that today? If you answered yes, does participating in this activity as an adult make you feel like a kid?

If memory serves, I did a lot of bike riding as a young kid. We spent a lot of time playing outside, and our family vacations were often camping trips. I spent a lot of time at a campfire, but of course it was my Dad that build and tended the fires! Whether my neighborhood or a campground somewhere, I did go for a lot of walks and wanders. I do not ride a bike any more at all, and haven't for many years. I do like to go for walks and hikes and wanders though. I don't know that it makes me feel like a kid overall, but I get bursts of nostalgia sometimes, especially at a campfire.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I still don't have the desktop computer fixed and have been relying on my chromebook for almost everything. I also haven't had time to spend doing much of anything computer related and I'm starting to wonder when I'll get "caught up"! Needless to say, it's probably more important that I stay on top of my banking and other responsibilities during my computer times!

What do you love most about your country? Leave a comment and let me know!
