WOTY and Goals - September Summary

I genuinely tried to stick to my routines as much as possible, but found myself so tired on weeknights that I fell behind on most of the household tasks and organizing that was on the to-do list. Things piled up a few times and then we had to get it in gear to catch up, so it may not have been the tidiest here all the time, but I think we mostly kept on top of laundry and chores. I'm not proud of my menu over the month, because I didn't put much time or effort into weeknight meals, but I did bake a couple things. Generally, I wonder when I'll feel like I'm caught up and can get to the organizational projects! Especially the spare room. I guess I'd better just get it done so I don't have to panic when we get company!

Here's a brief recap of the month, along with some photos.

September 1 - Happy Labor Day! Took advantage of it being a holiday Monday by sleeping a little later than usual, then headed to Cincinnati to see the Blue Jays visiting the Reds. Got lots of sun but had a great time! Stopped at a tiny little village on the way home and had dinner at Station House 81.

September 2-5 - a short but busy workweek!

September 6 - I wound up spending a lot of time working on graphics for the SVC show flyers. In the afternoon we went to Delaware State Park with kids, and then to the Hamburger Inn Diner for dinner.

September 6 - work and a quiet evening.
September 7 - After church I made a bigger lunch than usual because hubby was back to playing hockey after a break. I finished up all the SVC graphic stuff, and had a short nap. While hubby was at hockey I rehearsed. When he got home we went on a quick grocery shop, then  came home to clean up the kitchen and process all the white squash (it was quite the trick to get all that starch cleaned off my hands!) then relax for a bit.

September 8 - A horrific commute to work which took double the time, but at least the workday went fairly well. So did chorus rehearsal - and it was the first one with our new risers! Sadly, my ankle hurt horribly by the end of the day.

Sept 10 - My ordinary workday was disrupted by the Charlie Kirk assassination, and I was in shock and so very sad. Went straight to Dinner+Discipleship, and afterwards did an interview with one of the men in the 55+ group so I could write an article for the newsletter.

September 11 - Still processing all that had happened with Charlie Kirk, plus remembering 9/11.

September 12 - another ordinary workday, awful commute, and quiet evening.

September 13 - I love weekends! I had a lazy morning, and in the afternoon hubby and I went to Dawes Arboretum and toured the Daweswood house. We were craving ice cream so we drove to Zanesville and had dinner at Tom's Ice Cream Bowl. It was every bit as good as we'd been told!

September 14 - After church we went out for lunch with our 55+ lunch bunch. Then it was hockey for the hubster, and rehearsing and doing chorus tasks for me.

September 15-18 - A busy workweek and the usual schedule in the evenings. I did talk to Mum one evening.

September 19 - I talked with a friend on my way home from work, and in the evening we watched Only Murders in the Building and The Last Wright House.

September 20 - We went to Sugar Creek with the kids. Started with a snack at a cute coffee shop, then walked around town a bit and explored the museum, and saw the world's largest cuckoo clock. We shopped at an Amish market and the nearby flea market, then went back into town for dinner at the Loose Caboose.

September 21 - Church, hockey, and naps as usual.

September 22-26 - The workdays were just the same old same old. In the evenings, I made some phone calls to family, and on Friday evening we watched more Only Murders and Last Wright House.

September 27 - I got my hair cut, then met hubby at Timbuk Farm so I could see the mum field. We had a great lunch from a food truck there, and then went home for a nap. We thought we'd go to Franklin Park later in the day but slept too long, so we walked at Blendon Woods instead, then picked up groceries and spent the evening at home.

September 28 - another very usual Sunday: church, lunch, naps, hockey, and some grocery shopping

September 29 - After work, I hurried home and then to chorus for our final rehearsal before show day!

September 30 - Snuck out of work a few minutes early so we could get to the Blue Jackets game!

I will put them into practice with all my heart.

My Word of the Year for 2025 is Practice. Put the things I've learned and that I know into practice. Practice doing what I know I should do and want to do. Practice how I want to perform. Practice―and get better at―the things that are important to me. Make a practice of healthy and beneficial habits and routines. In 2024, my WOTY was Rhythm, and one way I tried to establish a rhythm was by keeping a very brief daily diary, to watch for daily and weekly patterns to develop and to be intentional about keeping the good ones going. In 2025, I'll continue keeping the daily diary, but with a focus on how well I'm meeting my goals in the disciplines I'm practicing. See my WOTY post for 2025 for how I chose this word: Word of the Year 2025 - Practice.
