Wednesday Hodgepodge - Hello October!

A hodgepodge is a jumble or assortment of things that might not appear to belong together. Joyce at From This Side of the Pond hosts a weekly link-up called Wednesday Hodgepodge that is a little collection of questions for bloggers to answer just for fun and to get to know each other. I always look forward to chatting with friends over coffee, so pour a cup of your favorite and let's visit for a few minutes!

Here are this week's questions - and my answers - for this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge.

1.  What's your favorite fall scent? Would we find this in or around your home right now?

Any of the pumpkin pie spices - cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, allspice - with apple or vanilla or something to give a bit of sweetness to the scent. Those are the candle scents we have going in the fall. Fresh baked bread and chili are two food scents I associate with fall that I love as well. I'm planning to bake bread tomorrow and I've been saying it's chili season, but I haven't cooked my first batch of the season yet.

2. October is Country Music Month . . . are you a fan of country music? Do you have a favorite country artist? Ever been to Nashville? In terms of lifestyle are you more country mouse or city mouse?

I do like country music, but I almost never listen to a country music station so I don't keep up with the current music. I like the more vintage country music, and up to the early 2000s. Favorite artists include: Shania Twain, Martina McBride, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, Rascal Flatts, Montgomery Gentry, Keith Urban . . . and I could probably list a ton more. I've never been to Nashville, but I would like to go. I would say my lifestyle leans far more towards country mouse. While I enjoy many aspects of city life - restaurants, museums, sports and entertainment - I prefer my home to be away from the city hustle and bustle and noise. I want a bit of nature around me, and a quiet porch with the sound of birds and frogs and crickets rather than a balcony near the nightlife of town.

 3. How about 'country cooking'? (loosely defined as rich flavors, familiar foods, large portions, often fried, and often associated with the southern region of the US of A)

I'm not sure how good I am as a cook, but I do have a bit of an affinity for country cooking. I guess I did enough home cooking for a houseful of kids and young people and their friends to qualify. I like trying to make my favorite international dishes from time to time, but keep coming back to the well-known favorites.

4. What's something that always has a positive impact on your mood?

Music. Whether it's uplifting and upbeat music that energizes me, or contemplative and mellow music that settles me, my mood is always made better by music. Making music with others is a powerful and positive expression of community!

5.  As we say so long to September share a noun, a verb, and an adjective that tells us something about how that month looked for you.

*September was mostly Indian summer. (is it okay to use this term? It says early autumn to me, with warm sunny days and crisp evenings that make you think of the woods and fields and a harvest moon)
*September had me doing a lot of processing. (so much to do and try to keep track of, and just busy!)
*September was, in many ways, an overwhelming month. Not necessarily in a bad way, but it was just a lot.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Here's some music that I hope has a positive impact on your mood! I love the ethereal harmonies in Eric Whitacre's music. I had this particular recording saved and ran across it this morning. It was a beautiful start to my day, and I wanted to share it.

The title of the piece is October, which leads me to my next random thought. Which isn't random at all really, because I include a link to the current Wednesday Quotes link-up every Hodgepodge. The theme is "Autumn/Another Spring" so it fits. You can find it here: WQ - Autumn Is Another Spring. Stop by and share a few thoughts and quotes! And don't forget the Everyday Images photo link-up!

How would you answer any of these questions? Leave a comment and let me know!
