At the beginning of each month I've been participating in the "Currently" link-up hosted at Overflowing With Thankfulness. Our hostess Jennifer posts a set of action verb prompts for the month and writers respond. So, without further ado, here are this month's prompts and what's happening currently . . .
***********
Loving - Things I'm loving right now include:
Independence Day and all the celebration and reflection that goes with it, including fireworks and cookouts and a long weekend. Especially when the long weekend means we have time to visit family!
Savoring - We kicked off the month with steak sandwiches for dinner, and since it was Canada Day, I made sure we had HP Sauce for the steak. Which led me to wonder this: is steak sandwich a different menu item in Canada than in the USA. Turns out it is. We remember getting steak sandwich in many Canadian restaurants, and it's a small steak, maybe a ribeye, served on top of a thick slice of garlic bread, and might come with fries or vegetables on the side. In the US, steak sandwich is more like a burger with all the toppings, except it's a steak instead of ground beef. So there you go. My effort to educate and entertain.
Found a new favorite summery drink at Starbucks - the Sunny Skies drink. Also savored some za'atar bread (I baked at my daughter's request), charcuterie and appetizers, and burgers on the 4th.
Celebrating - Canada Day, but super low-key this year; our daughter's birthday; and Independence Day! It's too early to celebrate most of them, but I'm glad we seem to have gotten some good wins in Congress lately, and I like to focus on those positives.
Remembering - Just three years ago, I had my full knee replacement on June 30th, and spent the first week or so of July kind of living on the sofa in the living room.

If you have to drink prune juice, drink it out of a wine glass! |
Trying - Lots of things I'm trying to do these days, including:
Trying to find a new swimsuit top - not going that well.
Trying to read more and play dumb games on my phone less.
Trying to get more exercise and eat well. The exercise has been a challenge lately, because my joints have been more stiff and achy, which I would expect with cold weather but not in summer, so that's strange. Would be nice if we could get to the pool more often, but it seems to be only on weekends that it works out.

Quotable (I've enjoyed hunting up little quotes to sprinkle into my posts, and I host a regular Wednesday Quotes link party based on interesting quotes, but I've still got such a collection that I have to keep sharing them!):
Patriotism consists not in waving the flag, but in striving that our country shall be righteous as well as strong. ~James Bryce
Consider this your invitation to stop by the current link-up and join us: WQ - Patriotism. The link-up is open for two weeks, and the next one will open on July 9th, with the theme "Hobbies"

My joints have been oddly achy lately too! I don't know what is going on but I know it's lasted long enough without any other symptoms to be something major like Lyme disease but my hip and knee in particular are downright painful when I stand up after sitting for any length of time. Your firework photos are fabulous! We really didn't see many this year as hardly anyone around the lake did big displays like they usually do.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping my achiness can be chalked up to arthritis, but either way it's not too much fun. Yes, it's the getting up after sitting in the same position for awhile that gets me - so I try being more fidgety in hopes that will help. LOL

I love all the things you love about Independence Day!! I'll have to try that Starbucks drink! Looks delicious. Hope you had a great holiday weekend!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter had the same drink as a lemonade, while mine was with coconut milk. Both were really good, but I'm glad I went with the coconut version.
DeleteOur holiday weekend was a lot of fun - too short, of course, but we had a great time.

Hooray for having that knee replacement in the past. Hope it has made a huge difference for you. Sounds like it has been a delicioius few weeks for you lately. I've never heard of HP sauce but I do like steak sauce...and I don't even eat steak!:) Enjoyed your post -
ReplyDeleteYes, that knee replacement was a huge game changer for the better! I guess HP sauce is quite similar to A1, although I think it's a bit darker and sweeter. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteI think achiness can go hand-in-hand with arthritis and weather changes. We are achy because this is our monsoon season - such a joke. It has rained once at our house. But the humidity is much higher than normal so I blaming that.
ReplyDeleteNever had HP sauce but your Canada meal sounds yummy. Lovely pictures of the fireworks. Was disappointed in my captures for the 4th.
I've been trying to figure out exactly how my arthritic aches and pains are related to the weather. I'm sure they ARE, I just don't know what the pattern is! ha! Sorry you're struggling with achiness as well.
DeleteFireworks are so tricky to photograph, especially with just a phone. And a phone that got a recent update to the camera that I don't even understand yet. Ugh. I always hope for one or two good ones among all the lousy ones. :-)
