There's a few more days left in June, but I decided to prepare my monthly look back at how I've been doing with my Word of the Year and goals early. And try to keep it brief.
First of all, how is it the end of June already? In many ways it felt like the month went by so quickly. I will say that the weekdays were largely unexciting. Go to work, come home from work. Not often that the weekday routine changed. In fact, overall it was a low-key kind of month, which should have lent itself well to my personal goals such as practicing better sleep habits and sticking to a regular schedule with household tasks. I wish I could say I did a consistently good job through the month, but there were definitely some ups and downs.
The general plan for housekeeping was to make Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays the days to concentrate on getting general tidying and chores and laundry done. Obviously more time-intensive tasks are better done on Saturdays. Monday and Wednesday evenings are the ones I'm usually out, so this plan keeps them free. Most weekdays I struggle to get home from work much before six, and to be honest I don't feel like doing any cooking or cleaning, so often I've done just the minimum. But when I make myself do just the little bit each day, at the very least it keeps things from piling up.
My record wasn't stellar this month, and sadly my desk and the spare room are still unorganized and untidy, but other than that things are going along okay. One evening hubby and I talked about who is doing what and how we want to divvy up some tasks and we agreed that a lot of the chores we should just do together as much as possible. Doing the dishes and meal planning, for example, are more efficient when we do it together, and grocery shopping may not be the most romantic date ever, but it is something we can do together. One of my asks was to work together on meal planning and see if he can get dinner going some nights, and maybe we can make the meals together more often too. We accomplished one big cleaning project this month that was kind of forced upon us. After dog sitting for our son, we decided it was high time we steam cleaned the carpets, so that got done at last!
Oh, and as usual, some weeks I make use of the habit tracker in my calendar and other weeks I don't.
Here's a brief recap of the month so far, along with some photos.
Tuesday, June 3 - It is pretty cool that my dentist office is right next door to my work. They are very efficient and my appointments have all been very quick so I just take my lunch break whenever my appointment time is. This time I walked over since the weather was nice. And I spotted this green heron in the pond on my way.
Wednesday, June 4 - Scioto Valley Chorus sang that anthem at the Columbus Clippers game, so hubby and I took in the baseball game on a beautiful evening. The only downside was that we missed the church event night because we already had the game planned.
Saturday, June 7 - After a rather lazy morning, hubby and I both went out to get our hair cut. My hairdresser is currently working at a barbershop with vintage Mayberry vibes so that's where I go to get my haircut. Maybe it's a little odd for me to get my hair cut at a barbershop instead of a salon but it works for me! Then we walked a bit on the rail trail and got barbecue for lunch.
Sunday, June 8 - After church we had a quick lunch, and later on we finally had a chance to hang out with the kids after the long weekend and their vacation. We met at a park so Vee could check out the playground and we walked a bit. Then they came back to our place and we grilled for dinner and relaxed.
Thursday, June 12 - I managed to leave work a bit early so we could hit the road to Plain City and meet the kids at Der Dutchman for dinner. This was our family's Father's Day outing, since the guys wanted to see the classic car show that happens there on Thursday evenings. Oh, and the food was really good too!
Saturday, June 14 - I went to meet hubby at work at lunchtime so I could see their Lavender Festival. It sure was pretty! It was cloudy and looked like it might rain any moment, but it didn't, and I felt like the darker skies made a good contrast to the purples in the photos.
Sunday, June 15 - after church we had a quick lunch and hubby's hockey game was early in the afternoon. The kids came over later and we enjoyed the pool.
Tuesday, June 17 - after work, hubby and I met friends from church for dinner. When we got home, the kids brought Zafira the dog over so we could pet-sit while they were on vacation.
Wednesday, June 18 - By the time I got home from work, I was so tired from allergies kicking my butt that I stayed home to rest while hubby went to D+D at church without me.
Thursday, June 19 - another dentist appointment and I FINALLY got my implant placed and that is finished!
Saturday, June 21 - I got up much earlier than usual for a weekend, as I was driving to Louisville for a Regional Sweet Adelines workshop. It was a long but very fun day.
Sunday, June 22 - It was hard to get up early for worship team rehearsal and church since I didn't get home till after midnight the day before. The afternoon nap was much needed! After hubby got back from hockey, we went grocery shopping and rented a steam cleaner . . . because the carpet needed a clean after having Zafira for almost a week!
Monday, June 23 - The kids came to pick Zafira up in the evening while I was at chorus rehearsal.
Tuesday, June 24 - when I got home from work, we quickly steam cleaned the upstairs so hubby could return the machine to the store while I got dinner going.
Thursday, June 26 - I'd kind of hoped to go for a swim after work, but it rained really hard so I took a pass on that. Hubby played hockey in the evening and I got some laundry and housework done.
And here we are at the weekend. Hubby is working this morning and we have a grad party we're going to later today. Not sure exactly what we'll do with the kids tomorrow - maybe just spend some time at the pool and go for ice cream or something simple. I could really enjoy a Whit's Custard, honestly.
I meant to have my "25 in '25" list into some kind of shareable format but it is still just a handwritten list in my daily planner, and I don't want to delay posting this any longer. Ah, the life of a procrastinator!

My Word of the Year for 2025 is Practice. Put the things I've learned and that I know into practice. Practice doing what I know I should do and want to do. Practice how I want to perform. Practice―and get better at―the things that are important to me. Make a practice of healthy and beneficial habits and routines. In 2024, my WOTY was Rhythm, and one way I tried to establish a rhythm was by keeping a very brief daily diary, to watch for daily and weekly patterns to develop and to be intentional about keeping the good ones going. In 2025, I'll continue keeping the daily diary, but with a focus on how well I'm meeting my goals in the disciplines I'm practicing. See my WOTY post for 2025 for how I chose this word: Word of the Year 2025 - Practice.
