One of the blogging traditions I enjoy is Share Four Somethings at the end of every month. It's a link0up that invites us to share some recent things from our lives in these categories: Some Things I Loved, Some Things I Learned, Some Things That Went Well, and Some Thing I Let Go Of. I usually like to include a little bit of a bonus: Some Things I Read and a little of What's Coming Up Soon.
Some Things I Loved:
Although we had some really uncomfortably hot days, for the most part I loved the weather. It's nice to not have to worry about taking along a jacket, and I love the sunny days. We had perfect weather for the first baseball game we went to this season (the chorus sang the anthem - which I also loved). Our Super Saturdays/Sundays were more low-key this month, but seeing the Lavender Fest at Timbuk Farms was a really good one.
Some Things I Learned:
Last weekend I attended a Sweet Adelines Regional workshop in Louisville. This wasn't a competition or convention, exactly, but more of an educational event. The focus of the event was understanding and improving our chorus and quartet scores in the Expression category, and we had one of the International judges explaining it to us. I was only able to attend the Saturday portion of the event, and it sounds like there was some really great stuff on Friday evening too, which I'm sure the SVC members who attended will share with the rest of us. So on Saturday, I learned some helpful tips and tweaks for vocal warmups and getting the resonance in the right place. I learned more about how judges determine scores for the various elements that are evaluated in contests, and perhaps most importantly, we all learned what we can work on as a chorus that will take us up to the next level!
Some Things That Went Well:
At long last, I got my dental implant placed, and it went quickly and well. My mouth was a bit sore for a day or two afterwards, because it was rather a tight fit, but some ibuprofen took care of that.
I wanted some flowers to put outside by the door, and not only did hubby acquire and plant them for me, he also looked after most of the cleanup that needed done in our patio area. We don't have any patio furniture yet, but at least the place is tidy! Some night soon when it's pleasant weather, we'll have to take our folding chairs out and sip our evening coffee under the stars.
Some Things I Let Go Of:
I did let go of some things in my Buy Nothing group like I vowed last month. That was just round one - there's more that I need to get rid of!
It's not gone yet, but I do need to let go of my old desk chair which is just no good any more. I need to get a new one before this one goes in the trash. A week or two ago, it kind of collapsed and the lever to jack it up no longer works to raise or lower it, and it is a bit too low. We put a couple of cushions on the seat to make it usable, but I'm getting pretty sick of it. In fact, I think I'll go browse IKEA right now and pick something out. Finding time to go to the store and get it might be a challenge, but we'll see. I guess it's possible someone will give one away on Buy Nothing, and I am keeping my eye out there.

Some Things I Read:
Finished and reviewed these since my last SFS:
Killers of a Certain Age by Deanna Raybourn
The Blind Scribe by Connilyn Cossette

Finished but not yet reviewed:
Jane of Lantern Hill by L.M. Montgomery
Here are the books I'm currently reading:
The Mysterious Case of the Missing Crime Writer by Ragnar Jónasson - also in the home stretch, I think
Murder Most Fair by Anna Lee Huber - started, but have spent much more time on the other two
The Highland Heist by Pepper Basham - just barely started, and need to hustle, because it's a review!
10 Marchfield Square by Nicola Whyte - just picked up from the library, and I can't waste time because it's in high demand and I doubt I'll be able to renew it.
What's Coming Up Soon?
We've decided to go to Maryland for the long weekend so I'm very excited about that! It will be a fun way to kick off July, and the month will wind up being bookended with family get-togethers. At the very end of July we have a vacation home booked and all the kids will be with us there for a long weekend. Other than those two trips, there's not much on the calendar for the month ahead. A baseball game is the only thing I can think of at the moment.
