A song of ascents.
Out of the depths I cry to you, LORD;
Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
to my cry for mercy.
If you, LORD, kept a record of sins,
Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness,
so that we can, with reverence, serve you.
I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.
Israel, put your hope in the LORD,
for with the LORD is unfailing love
and with him is full redemption.
He himself will redeem Israel
from all their sins.
~Psalm 130~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And Mary said:
"My soul glorifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,
for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
for the Mighty One has done great things for me―
holy is his name.
His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
to Abraham and his descendants forever,
just as he promised our ancestors."
~Luke 1:46-55~
I love that Luke verse.
ReplyDeleteMay we wait with expectation for He will surely come!
ReplyDeleteI love that arrangement of "O Come, O Come Immanuel." I am thankful He came and is coming again.
ReplyDeleteThat may be my favorite Carol.
ReplyDeletePerhaps Mary had participated in singing Psalm 130. The song of ascents occurred while walking up the steps to the temple. Mary's song is rich in praise and understanding of scripture.
