One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.
don't fight!
fight for what's right

I remember getting in trouble for fighting with my siblings when I was a kid, and I remember how much it bothered me when my kids fought. Just get along! Seems like we're always reminding kids to stop fighting, and we know it's a bad thing when couples fight. We don't want fights and violence in our neighborhoods or we certainly don't want larger scale conflicts and wars.
But we do think it's important and good to fight for our rights, for our freedoms, for justice.
It's over-simplifying, of course, but whether we're fighting the good fight or fighting a losing battle is determined largely by who or what we are fighting against. Squabbling amongst ourselves is counter-productive and causes division. Standing united to defend each other against a common enemy is usually more succssful in the long run.
It's sad to hear of churches and Christians fighting with each other over silly things. Should we be arguing about personal preferences and differences of opinion, or should we be looking out for each other and being gracious to each other? I think the Bible is clear that we should be preaching the good news and making disciples of Jesus, not bickering amongst ourselves.
The real enemy is not the person we disagree with. We know that the real adversary is the enemy of our souls, the father of lies. who sows division and doubt between us. Let's not be a circular firing squad, but let's help each other get equipped and properly armed with God's word and the power of the Holy Spirit, and let's have each other's backs as we "fight the good fight of the faith".
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
~II Corinthians 10:3-5~
But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
~I Timothy 6:11-12~
Life is a hard battle anyway. If we laugh and sing a little as we fight the good fight of freedom, it makes it all go easier. I will not allow my life's light to be determined by the darkness around me. ~ Sojourner Truth

It's been a minute since I did a Five Minute Friday, but I had a little time late Friday and some quick thoughts this week.

I could never get along
ReplyDeletewith anyone at all,
and since I am big and strong
I never took the fall.
Now, violence doesn't solve things
except, yeah, when it does,
and for me it always brings
a happy smiling buzz,
the kind kind of feeling that you get
from breaking up a pub
and the peelers aren't there yet,
but now there is the rub
that Smartphones are the rage these days;
with cameras violence never pays.
Love the quote by Sojourner Truth.
