Once again, it's time to look back on the month and share Something Loved, Something Accomplished, Something Improved Upon, and Something Noticed. I'm going to continue adding my Something Read and What's Coming Up Soon.
Something Loved
I loved visiting the Dawes Arboretum a couple times, even though both days we went were very hot! We always enjoy the landscaping and trees and the trails to walk, but this month we discovered a fantastic (cool!) place inside the visitor center to watch the activity in the bird feeder garden. We went for the Big Bugs exhibit, and as a bonus, we especially loved having family with us on both visits.
"It's right behind me, isn't it" |
I loved walking at Taylor Farm Park and at Blacklick Woods with family.
I loved the day hubby and I went up to the Lake Erie shore for a perch dinner and then went to Cleveland in the evening for a Calder Cup playoff hockey game.
What I love most is time spent with loved ones, and thankfully we were able to do that this month, and already have more family get-togethers planned to look forward to.
Something Accomplished
The photos are not good, but I think I've added a couple of really good dishes to my repertoire. We tried a smoked pork tenderloin stuffed with apricot and spinach and it was delicious. My husband said it was a bit sweet for his liking though. We've done smoked stuffed tenderloin before and I think the stuffing had cream cheese, so we're looking for that recipe. The other recent culinary accomplishment is Chicken Florentine, which really isn't difficult at all, but it is so good!
Something Improved Upon
I got the new sunglasses and holy cow, what a difference! I didn't realize just how bad the old pair was until I put the new ones on. So my vision on sunny summer days is greatly improved, and that's important when driving!
Something Noticed (In our Lives or Around Town)
We've seen Stuart Little's house in the German Village area before, but we made sure to take notice of it on our way to the Book Loft last weekend. The larger house is actually for sale, but we don't have any interest in living in that neighborhood! Fun to visit, don't want to live there!
We also noticed this fellow on our "squirrel-proof" suet feeder. Ahem.
I don't mind a whole lot - he has to really work for the very little bit he was able to reach. With the old feeder he was just eating the whole suet cake at a sitting, and I just kind of hoped he had the tummy-ache he deserved afterwards!
Something Read
Voice of the Ancient by Connilyn Cossette
Hardy Haul at Hardy Hall (Teddy Quillfeather Mysteries Book 1) by PJ Fitzsimmons
Here are the books I'm currently reading:
Once Upon A Prince by Rachel Hauck
Sisters of Fortune by Anna Lee Huber
Find Momo Across Europe by Andrew Knapp
What's Coming Up Soon?
Canada Day, in just a couple days! And of course, Independence Day after that! We're fine tuning the plan with our son and his family for Independence Day, but we know it will include fireworks and a cookout, and probably pool time.
We do have some plans for weekends in July, and during the last weekend of July we're going to Maryland for my husband to play in a hockey tournament with his old league.

I haven't made a pork tenderloin in forever! I really need to do it, but there's always so much left over. And, I don't think it reheats well...any tips on that? It sounds like your month is going to be quite full with a trip back to Maryland, too! I have to admit I'm glad our family all lives close now. For several years, our daughter and her husband lived up and down the East Coast. That's a long drive...especially when they lived in Charleston.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week!

I do find that pork can either be dry or rubbery when reheated, at least in the microwave. This one was actually better than usual, and I think it was because of the fruity stuffing. I don't have any good tips though. Although I wish our kids lived closer, the six-hour drive between us is not all that bad, all things considered. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteYour walks all look so lovely! I can see why you enjoy all your visits to the arboretum; it's such a beautiful place. We have a very persistent squirrel that I actually get a kick out of watching-- he can't reach our feeder where it is but has tried climbing the siding, tried jumping from our railing, and even tried jumping from the back of one of our chairs. He made it onto the top of the feeder once in 2 or 3 years now but he still tries every single day.
ReplyDeleteThis squirrel-proof feeder did the job for quite a few months, but now it looks like he's cracked the code. LOL It's entertaining for sure. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteI love all your pictures. It sounds like June was a great month for you. I hope you have an enjoyable July!
