From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.
~Acts 17:26-27~
When we first moved to the USA from Canada, about thirty years ago, this verse really struck me. From the beginning of history, God knew who would live when and where, and his plan was that all people would seek him. I wasn't sure of exactly why we'd been moved from one place to another, but it was comforting and encouraging to be reminded that it somehow fit into God's master plan and purpose of people finding him. Other moves and changes have happened in my personal life since then, and God is still in control. And as we look ahead to Canada Day and Independence Day this week, and see all the uncertainty and even turmoil in our countries and around the world, we can still find comfort and encouragement in the fact that God is still on his throne. He's placed each one of us in our time and place for our good and for his glory, and so that we will seek him. He's already aware of the histories and politics and boundaries and conflicts, and is not surprised by anything that happens. He wants all people to seek him and turn to him, and to know that he is near and will keep his promises. All for our good and for his glory.
Happy Canada Day!
Happy Independence Day!
Thanks for sharing a bit of your history! It’s a joy to know God’s will for all countries and cultures is the same—that they come to know and worship Him. How thrilling it will be in heaven to join in praise with some from every tribe and tongue.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, and I think it will be wonderful to see how all the threads of our lives are interwoven with others in order to arrive in heaven! Thanks for stopping by and linking up!
DeleteI often think about the sovereignty of God in his placement of people in their historical context. It’s a comfort to me when I think about the world my grandchildren will grow into, should the Lord tarry.
ReplyDeleteIt comforts me as I think about my kids and grandkids and their futures as well. Thanks for stopping by and linking up!
DeleteMy grandparents moved here from Canada many years ago. And while I have lived in the US all my life, we moved a lot growing up. One move, in particular, was very challenging for me. I didn't know the Lord then but that Acts 17 passage is one of my favorites, too. It's so comforting to know that it was all part of God's plan.
ReplyDeleteI'm always glad to hear that this passage has been a comfort or encouragement to others. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
