Welcome to Twenty-Six Lists! I hope you'll join me in this simple link-up, where I share a writing prompt for some kind of list, and invite you to share what's on your list. Your list can be very simple or include lots of explanation; short or long; a bullet point list or essay style. Interpret the list prompts however you like, depending on how much time you have to spend, and how much background you'd like to share.
This week's list is your chance to brag on yourself a little! Please tell us about some of the things you're good at. What are your talents? What creative skills do you have? I'm convinced that everyone has some talents and skills and we each have some areas of creativity. We're not always comfortable sharing our talents with others, but I think we should. And we should applaud and appreciate each other too.
Here are some of the things on my list . . .
My Talents and Creative Skills:
- I can sing well. I can sing lead or harmony, and can generally just "hear" a harmony part to sing. My range is lower so I sing alto in a mixed chorus and I sing bass in women's barbershop. I love choral singing, obviously, since I've done a lot of it, but I also love singing in a worship team setting too. I'm not the showiest or most demonstrative lead singer, but I am pretty good at making eye contact with an audience or congregation and I don't have much trouble with stage fright.
- I can play keyboard. I've been playing piano since I was a little kid, and I'm no concert pianist but I can read a chord sheet or lead sheet and play pretty much anything they give me for worship team. I don't play all that well by ear, so I do like to have a chord sheet or something. I suppose if I put in the practice time, I might be able to get back some of the skill level I had years ago when I accompanied choirs and soloists, and occasionally played for weddings.
- I like to write and I think I'm pretty good at it. I mean, if I didn't think I was a decent writer, why would I even have a blog, right? I know I have a pretty good eye for getting the grammar and mechanics right, and I've put that skill to use as a writing instructor. I also started working towards professional proofreading, but once I started working full time, I had to set that aside.
- I can't draw very well, but I can follow instructions so I've been very pleased with the paint projects I've done at paint brunches.
- I am good at baking bread. I don't really enjoy cooking on an everyday basis, but I like to bake and have been developing my bread baking skills in particular.
- I like to have guests and host casual dinner get-togethers, so I guess I am pretty good at putting together those kinds of meals, and I think practicing hospitality can be considered a creative skill. What do you think?
Well, I'm NOT good at time management, so I will stop there because my time is up for now!
What are your talents and skills? Please share.

I enjoyed reading this post about your talents. I play piano and I used to sing. I have lost my ability for singing but I'm working on getting it back. For some reason, my throat tightens up and I just can't seem to get it out any more. I'm trying to make myself sing more and I'm hoping I'll eventually be able to sing again. I rather miss it.
ReplyDeleteIf you ever come to the Cincinnati or Dayton area with your group to perform, let me know. I would love to hear you.
That must be upsetting to have your throat tighten up when you try to sing. :-( I hope you'll regain that ability. I know I'd miss it terribly if I wasn't able to sing. I will try to share any performance dates I can here, and I'd love to meet you! Thanks so much for stopping by to comment!
DeleteI'm pretty good at singing too but I can't play any instruments or read music very well (though I can). I tend to be more into creative arts like painting, drawing, scrapbooking, sewing, floral crafts, etc.. pretty much any craft that doesn't include yarn. I've started to enjoy the culinary arts more too as I explore recipes and experiment with Alec in the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteYour scrapbooking and artwork is beautiful - you're very talented! I think your photography is a wonderful artistic skill you have as well. Thanks for stopping by and sharing!
DeleteHahaha!!! I read my editorial calendar incorrectly and did my 26 Lists post on Historical Figures! I guess one of my talents is definitely not reading a calendar!
ReplyDeleteI always, always wanted to play a musical instrument. But, the funds were never there when I was a kid, and my school music classes were just, basically, open the book and sing the songs as the teacher played the piano. In her defense, she also had to teach home ec, girls' gym classes, and music for the entire school (K-8). About 30 years ago (I can't believe it's been that long), our church received handbells as a bequest. I decided to play the bells not being able to do much more than the good old F-A-C-E and Every Good Boy Does Fine! IYKYK!! Anyway, I have been lucky in being able to play the same bells all those years and have a passing ability to sight read my notes.
Is it OK if I do the talents post in two weeks?

Fine with me if you switch the lists! It's too bad that not every kid who wants to learn to play an instrument has the chance. I think in many ways it's more accessible to children now than it used to be, but it's still an expense to take on and not every family can do it. How fun that you've been able to play the handbells - I have several friends that play handbells and it's quite amazing some of the music that can be played with a decent handbell choir! good for you!
DeleteThanks for stopping by, commenting, and linking up!
You are musical! I am not. I do like to write though!
ReplyDeleteWe don't all have the same talents! But I think writing may be a common denominator among bloggers though! Thanks for stopping by, commenting, and linking up!
DeleteI enjoyed this Kym. I was going to join in this week, but I'm leaving tomorrow (Thursday) for a trip and I just couldn't get it all done. I've missed all the link parties this week. Oh well...I'm excited for my trip and I'll play catch up when I get back
ReplyDeleteTime is not always on our side! Have a great time on your trip! I really appreciate that you took the time to stop by and comment!
