Wednesday Hodgepodge - November Thoughts

A hodgepodge is a jumble or assortment of things that might not appear to belong together. Joyce at From This Side of the Pond hosts a weekly link-up called Wednesday Hodgepodge that is a little collection of questions for bloggers to answer just for fun and to get to know each other. I always look forward to chatting with friends over coffee, so pour a cup of your favorite and let's visit for a few minutes!

Yesterday's morning coffee
came from my new coffee maker!

Here are this week's questions - and my answers - for this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge.

1. Besides Thanksgiving (in the USA) what's one thing you're looking forward to in November?

I'm looking forward to seeing my Maryland family and friends again in November. Our trip is planned for - when else? - the Thanksgiving weekend.

2. Do you like candles? Your favorite scent? How often do you burn a candle in your home?

Oh, I do like candles! And I like pretty much any scent, but especially the ones with spice or baking scents. We got one from Bob Evans awhile ago that has the most amazing coffee scent, and that is my current favorite. I don't burn candles as often as I'd like to, partly because I'm afraid I'll forget to put them out when I go to bed or leave the house. And that is not a good thing!

3. What gadgets did you use today?

I'm answering on Tuesday night, just to be clear. I think a phone qualifies as a gadget, or at least there are all kinds of gadgets (otherwise known as apps) on the phone, and I used a lot of them! I used the remote keyfob for my car, a hair dryer, nail clippers . . . probably a bunch of others. Just depends how you define gadget!

4. This question is a repeat from one asked in November of 2014, but I liked it so it's coming round again. Many of you weren't here in 2014. Okay, you can have fifty pounds of something (anything but money) . . . what will you choose? Also, since I mentioned it . . . what were you up to in November of 2014?

Would gold be considered money? If not, I'd take fifty pounds of gold. If that answer is disqualified, how about fifty pounds of high quality beef . . . assuming I'd have room for it in my freezer, of course!

I was not a member of the Hodgepodge community in 2014. Looking back in my Google photo album, I discovered that I took a carload of teens to a one day youth retreat in Delaware, and I was an adult leader for our church youth group at the time, so it looks like we did quite a few youth events. My daughter was singing in the children's chorus so there were a couple of performances they did. And that Thanksgiving, we drove up to Ontario to see my husband's family.

5. 'Tis the season . . . what's something you're feeling especially grateful for today?

Today I'm feeling especially grateful to be a member of the Scioto Valley Chorus and that I've got the resources to be here at Sweet Adelines International. It's a pretty big deal!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Keeping it short today because I'm at the Sweet Adelines Convention (see #5) and have a busy day ahead! Enjoy a couple of October 31st themed memes!

If you participated in Trick or Treat yesterday in any way, I hope you enjoyed sucrose and avoided conflict!

And . . . Happy Reformation Day!

Today is actually All Saints Day. I wrote a brief history of these special days at the end of October and beginning of November a few years ago for my homeschool blog, because I was unclear about the difference between All Saints and All Souls Days, and how All Hallows was (or was not?) related to either of those. You can find it here: All Hallows, All Saints, and All Kinds of Celebrations

  1. I had to go back to my photo albums as well as I wasn't hodgepodging in 2014. Have a great time at the Sweet Adelines International!

  2. I enjoyed your answers! What church were the kids singing in? The reason I'm asking is that it looks like a UMC and I'm on staff at a UMC.

  3. Your sidebar reminded me I also used my coffeemaker and that is probably my most loved gadget : ) Enjoy your convention. I'm envious of people with musical talent as I have none. I always say when I get to heaven I'll be able to sing lol.

  5. I really went with the minimal gadgets in my answer and ignored all the obvious ones like my phone, computer, coffee maker...oye. Enjoy your event that sounds interesting. My imagination was also lame with the 50# question. Your Thanksgiving weekend sounds like fun. Hats off to Martin Luther! :)

  6. Well, as a Lutheran, thanks for the shoutout to Reformation Day! I wonder what he'd think of the church today and if he'd be pounding more theses onto doors.

I just looked at my phone, and my photos show me that November 2014 involved having my grandkids help with raking leaves. Gosh, I miss when they were little and around all the time. I also miss living in that house with the trees with all the leaves.
