One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.
maintain weight
maintain the system
maintain order

At first I thought that maintaining was just mediocre and being complacent, because I thought of how frustrating it is to see the exact same number on the scale day after day after day. Yes, I'm maintaining my weight and at least it's not going up, but when I want it to go down it's still not very positive. But when someone reaches their goal weight, then it's awesome to be able to maintain that over time!
It depends what is being maintained and why. We want to maintain healthy habits, and maintain any progress we make towards worthy goals. We want to maintain good health, and maintain our homes, keeping everything in good working order. We want to maintain good relationships with people we care about. We should want to maintain systems that work so they keep on working.
If we do not maintain justice, justice will not maintain us. ~Francis Bacon
To maintain a joyful family requires much from both the parents and the children. Each member of the family has to become, in a special way, the servant of the others. ~Pope John Paul II
Sometimes maintaining is that complacency that first came to my mind, that's true. But when we've achieved or have been given something good, we should be putting in effort to maintain those good things and it's worthwhile. It does require some discipline to keep on with the wise choices and healthy habits that keep the weight off and the body working. It can be a lot of work to maintain a clean home, keep all the appliances and systems in good working order, and keep the yard looking nice. A lot of work!
I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought, and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder. ~Gilbert K. Chesterton
God has given us a lot of good things, and our gratitude for them should motivate us to follow the laws he's given us, and to be diligent in keeping what he's entrusted to us.
This is what the LORD says: "Maintain justice and do what is right, for my salvation is close at hand and my righteousness will soon be revealed. Blessed is the one who does this―the person who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it, and keeps their hands from doing any evil."
~Isaiah 56:1-2~
Turn away from evil and do good.
Search for peace, and work to maintain it.
~Psalm 34:14~

As we mark Veteran's Day and Remembrance Day, it's a good time to reflect on whether we are putting forth the effort to maintain the freedom and peace that we've been given thanks to the hard work and great sacrifice of our veterans and their families. Heroes all.

good question indeed. What are we doing to maintain what others have gone on before to hold for us? FMF11
