Five Minute Friday - Anticipate

One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.

anticipate the future

********************

When the future is unknown, we can face it with either hope or fear, and in many ways, the future is always unknown. We can see trends and signs and use logic to get a good idea what to expect, and we should be wise and prepared for likely outcomes. But in a very real sense, we can't know for sure what will happen.

One event makes another. What we anticipate seldom occurs; what we least expected generally happens; and time can only prove which is most for our advantage. ~Benjamin Disraeli

Do not anticipate trouble, or worry about what may never happen. Keep in the sunlight. ~Benjamin Franklin

As the world gets crazier by the moment, and there are real and scary threats against us, we may be afraid with good reason. But if we know Jesus, we can balance the fear of the unknown with the hope and anticipation of God's mercy and justice, and the sure knowledge that he is ultimately in control and loves us.

God is mighty. God is caring. God is worthy of praise. God is loving. God is able. God is in control. Nothing takes God by surprise. Some sweet reminders to soak in before falling asleep tonight. ~Lysa TerKeurst

It's interesting that I just wrote yesterday for Wednesday Quotes about Surprise, and that there are good surprises and not-so-good surprises in life. Anticipation, to me, is knowing that there are good surprises in store and keeping our eyes open for them.

Your kingdom is an eternal kingdom,
and your dominion endures through all generations.
The LORD supports all who fall,
and lifts up all who are bent over.
Everything looks to you in anticipation,
and you provide them with food on a regular basis.
You open your hand,
and fill every living thing with the food they desire.
The LORD is just in all his actions,
and exhibits love in all he does.
The LORD is near all who cry out to him,
all who cry out to him sincerely.
He satisfies the desire of his loyal followers;
he hears their cry for help and delivers them.
~Psalm 145:13-19~

  3. On this night I can barely walk
and that don't feel so great,
but I refuse to harbour talk
    about my coming fate.
    There may be miracle divine,
or a meteor to give answer.
At any rate, now's not the time
to look to death by cancer.
    Whatever happens gonna happen,
    win or lose or draw,
and so I'll go on just a-snappin'
    my fingers 'till they're raw,
to the beat that lives in me,
    the rhythm of uncertainty.
