Monthly Musings questions again! Holly at Pink Lady and Patty at Good Better Best co-host this monthly sharing of tips, tricks, and conversation starters. Honestly, I don't know what I'm thinking writing this post, because I have a ton of stuff to do before we leave on vacation. I guess I'm thinking I will give short answers and skip some of the questions?!
1. Favorite fall traditions - The best fall tradition is Thanksgiving! On both the Canadian and American dates. For the past several years I've said that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, ranking above Christmas, because it's just one day (or maybe weekend) and it's all about family and friends and food. Spending time together, and without the pressure to attend all the parties and events or to buy gifts for everyone.
2. How do you celebrate Halloween? We really don't celebrate it, and honestly don't pay much attention. Our church in Maryland has had a huge Trunk or Treat event for many years and we made a point of decking out our vehicles and dressing up to participate in that every year that we could. I suppose I'll need to find out what happens for trick or treating in the community here so we know what to expect. A few years ago, I went with my daughter to a Twenty One Pilots concert on October 31st, which was pretty wild, but that is definitely not an annual Halloween event!
3. Favorite fall recipes - please share links - I had to step away and think about this one for a minute because I don't have recipes handy for sharing. Fall foods I think of are soups, chili, roasted root vegetables, and all things apple and pumpkin. Also bread. Homemade bread is probably the best in fall. One of my favorites is Challah and here's the link to an old post on my homeschool blog where I shared my recipe: From the High School Lesson Book: Rosh Hashanah
In another post from the Homeschool blog archives, I shared a couple of Thanksgiving feast recipes that we like, Pineapple Casserole (a cheesy but sweet side dish) and Cranberry Crumble (perfect dessert to use up the extra cranberry sauce): 52 Lists #46 - Thanksgiving Menu
4. Favorite fall fashion pieces. I haven't got anything in particular that's a favorite, but I do like flannels and cardigans. I love boots too, but to be honest I havent worn boots in several years!
5. How do you decorate for fall? I'm not sure how much decorating I'll do here. I didn't bring much seasonal decor with me and don't want to spend much money. I picked up a Thanksgiving type table runner and will get a fall wreath or planter for the door, but other than that I haven't got any definite plans. Lots I'd like to do, but I don't have the time to put into it. I did more decorating in Maryland - candles, harvest themed items and some Halloween items. My daughter really likes Halloween so she covered that angle!
6. Pumpkin spice? Oh yes or over it? Okay, I do not care for pumpkin spice lattes. Just don't. Now a pumpkin spice chai is a different story. But in general, pumpkin spice is for pumpkin pie and for candle scents, in my opinion.
7. Thoughts on candy corn? It's not the grossest candy out there but it's just not good.
8. Favorite fall/ Halloween movie? Hmmm. Disney's Haunted Mansion, I guess? The one with Eddie Murphy. That's the only Halloween movie I can think of that's not a horror film and I absolutely do not do horror films.
9. Apple pie, pumpkin pie, or cider donuts? Bring me all the pumpkin pie! I love it!
10. Bonfire, hayride, or haunted house? Bonfires! I don't mind hayrides, but I wouldn't choose that unless it was to take my granddaughter.

Okay, a few people have mentioned Haunted Mansion so now I want to check that movie out. And yes, bring on all the flannel shirts and cardigans!
ReplyDeleteIf any of my family is reading, add flannel shirts to my wishlist. LOL Thanks for stopping by, Natasha!
DeleteWow! That concert must have been wild on Halloween night- ha! Your challah recipe sounds amazing-thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteno better time to go to a TOP concert - so many people go dressed up anyway. That was the Trench tour so we were decked out with all the yellow tape ourselves. LOL Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteThanksgiving is my favorite above Christmas too. Christmas just feels like too much (not really in OUR house but just in general). I love homemade bread to go with our soups and stews!
ReplyDeleteYeah, there's just too many obligations and general busy-ness around the Christmas season. I love the season, but it's just so commercialized and overwhelming at times. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
