Currently . . . August 3, 2023

At the beginning of each month I've been participating in the "Currently" link-up hosted at Overflowing With Thankfulness. Our hostess Jennifer posts a set of action verb prompts for the month and writers respond. So, without further ado, here are this month's prompts and what's happening currently . . .

***********

Loving - Things I'm loving right now include:

Having two vehicles again! Makes it so much easier for me to get to work and run errands when I have my own vehicle to get things done.

I guess I'm loving the job I've started, that both necessitated and facilitated getting that second vehicle. I wouldn't say it's an ultimate dream job or anything like that, but I found one that has hours and a vibe that suits me, gives me some everyday structure and purpose, and for the most part is in my wheelhouse as far as experience and skills. And obviously, the income is very nice too!

My office still needs some personalization!

Being part of the Scioto Valley Chorus! I love singing together with others, and this group of ladies is wonderfully welcoming and supportive. Preparing music and working towards a big competition in the fall is demanding but also it's a team to belong to and goals to work towards.

Trying out some new restaurants! We enjoy trying barbecue places all the time, but this week we also tried out a Brazilian steakhouse for the first time. Well, first time for me―my husband had been to one on a business trip several years ago. Our visit this week was our anniversary celebration, and it was the perfect choice for that. The food was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was lovely. Classy but not snooty, if you know what I mean.

Looking forward to - a visit to Maryland that's coming up soon! I don't know if I'll ever be okay with not seeing my adult kids and my grandkids only once every couple of months, which is just not enough, but maybe it makes the visits that much more special. We'll all be together for a weekend to celebrate Aubrey's first birthday, and my husband and I have a little extra time on that weekend to include brief visits with some friends too.

Then a couple pages further on in my calendar, I'm so excited about a trip to Alberta we have planned. My husband and I are going out to see my family to celebrate my parents' 60th anniversary. We haven't been out there for ten years, and it's been that long since I've seen my siblings. That's definitely something exciting to look forward to!

Starting - I started a new Conqueror Challenge not that long ago―the Florida Keys. The Conqueror Virtual Challenges let you keep track of your walking (or running, or cycling, or almost any exercise) on a virtual trail, and you get a cool medal when you finish. I really like them for keeping me motivated to get out for walks and hikes, since exercising isn't my favorite thing.

You get these virtual postcards along the way

Last challenge I finished, but
I haven't taken a photo of
the medal yet!

My husband and I have each added a medal since this photo

Thinking - that I'd better start planning if I'm actually going to teach the writing class this fall. Now that it's August, the countdown to the start of co-op classes is on, and I suppose I should touch base with mine to nail down plans for how we're going to do this. We've tentatively planned for me to teach the non-fiction writing class virtually. I've taught the course for a few years so I have a lesson plan already, but it will need some updating and refining for this year.

Wearing - jeans and t-shirts or casual tops to work! I've never minded dressing business casual for work, but I have to admit that I love that this job is more laid back and jeans and tees are standard. That said, my office is air-conditioned so I stay comfortable, while I know that the guys out in the warehouse are not so comfortable in long pants considering how hot it gets. I'm considering getting another pair or two of my current favorite jeans soon. I love when I find something that like and fits comfortably, but isn't pricey, and these GV Amanda jeans fit the bill for me. I already own them in a bunch of colors, but there's a lot more, and I've seen the same style in capris and shorts too, so I'm thinking about the capris.

  4. Oh, I LOVE Conqueror challenges. I discovered them in the early months of Covid and I'm currently working on the Lands End to John O'Groats one in the UK.

    1. Lands End is on my Conqueror Challenge wishlist, but I believe it's one of the longer ones. I've been sticking to the shorter ones since my knee has limited me. I hope to get around to longer ones soon, but I need to up my daily walk distance first! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
