One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.
I didn't realize
when you realize
realize a profit
real eyes realize real lies
********************
I didn't realize until I did a little search that the line about "real eyes realize real lies" may have originated from a rapper, or that there was a metal song with that title. Which is an example of what the word means, I suppose. It's when I become aware that something is real or true. It was real or true before I figured it out, but the moment my eyes are opened to it is the moment I realized the fact.
It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance. ~Thomas Sowell
The Word of God is true, God is real, the offer of forgiveness and salvation through Jesus Christ is real. When we accept and believe it―when we realize―it becomes real and true in our lives and we are changed. We can experience real freedom when we realize we need what Jesus offers. We can do what is right and good when we realize that God's guidelines for our lives are right and good for us. We can live with real peace and joy when we realize that's the gift of the Holy Spirit.
These things have always been true. But when you realize that it's true for YOU, you are changed.
Who is wise? Let them realize these things.
Who is discerning? Let them understand.
The ways of the LORD are right;
the righteous walk in them, but the rebellious stumble in them.
~Hosea 14:9~
"If you love me, keep my commands.
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever―the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.
On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them."
~John 14:15-21~
When we realize that we're really not all that and a bag of chips, we can accept God's help and healing. And when we realize that we are all in need, maybe we can do a better job of being honest with each other and helping others find the truth as well.

You know me, gotta have a humorous quote included too!
I always wanted to be somebody, but now I realize I should have been more specific. ~Lily Tomlin

I told myself that I'd be great,
ReplyDeleteso strong inward did I feel!
And thus it did become my fate
that lies I told myself came real,
not in any worldly sense,
for I have and will not realize
any sort of recompense,
but what's so clear now to my eyes
is that there is reflected glory
coming from Him whom I follow,
and my tale's now a true story
with something I could never borrow,
but was given in a fatal love,
nobility from God above.
The true story God gives us is the best kind!
DeleteI was a sophomore in college - when I realized the truth of Thomas Sowell's quote - when I realized every core class I took, someone majored in and became "well versed" while I just scratched the surface...and that is when I realized the depth of my ignorance.
ReplyDeleteAnd the Lily Thomas quote made me laugh, so thanks for the laugh, Kym!
I love Sowell's wit and wisdom so much, and this quote is one of my favorites. The Lily Tomlin quote made me chuckle too, so I just had to include it! Thanks for visiting!
DeleteI appreciated this post, Kym.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting, Joanne :-)
Delete"You never realize what you have until its gone." So true.
ReplyDeleteit's sad, but it is often true
DeleteKym, this is such a helpful post. We really can't even realise our own needs without His help. We are completely at His mercy, and then we get to respond. It makes me wonder what else I haven't realised yet. Gotta keep pressing in to Him. Visiting from FMF #2 this week.
ReplyDeleteYes, thankful that he is patient and merciful with us, because sometimes it takes awhile to figure it out. Thanks for visiting
