What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all―how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died―more than that, who was raised to life―is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:
"For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
~Romans 8:31-39~
The Christian's response to threats must be to trust even more in God for protection. This isn't easy, and it usually doesn't come naturally. But there is nothing that any enemy can throw at us that can stop God from loving us or that can come against God's power.
There are threats that are pretty scary, even in our supposedly strong and free country. There are rumors and threats of war; there are worries about our country's involvement in conflicts elsewhere; there are concerns over the safety of air and water (especially after events like the Ohio train derailment disaster); there are worries about the safety and stability of our food supply; threats to our children's safety in schools; worries over the stability of the economy; and even threats of cancel culture coming after anyone who doesn't fall in with the godless agenda of the day.
Even writing out a paragraph like that disturbs me. I know I'm not brave enough to handle all those threats. Most of those things are completely beyond my control. So I do what I can, and trust God for the rest, because He IS in control. The proper response to a threat must be to trust him.
Hear me, my God, as I voice my complaint;
protect my life from the threat of the enemy.
Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked,
from the plots of evildoers.
The righteous will rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in him;
all the upright in heart will glory in him!
~Psalm 64:1-2, 10~
Now. Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.
~Acts 4:29~
I so agree. These days in which we are living cause me to pray more and more.There is only One in control of all which occurs and He will respond when we come to Him and be all we need. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteThese words are so timely, Kym. We can see storm clouds on the horizon. I'm not naturally brave or one to stand out or buck against the system. But may God give us grace to stand for Him and to trust Him for the consequences.
