One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.
better to give than receive
believe and receive

Yesterday I was expecting two packages from Amazon. It was rainy and windy here and I knew that one of the two packages wouldn't fit in my mailbox so I was trying to pay attention in case the delivery driver knocked on the door. However, the wind may have worked against me because it bumped my wreath against the door which sounded like a knock, and after being fooled a few times I just ignored the knocking sound.
When my husband came home from work there was no package sitting outside the door, so I checked the package tracking information. There were two emails indicating that both packages had been delivered, and there was also a photo showing at least one package sitting just outside my door. What was going on?
The rain had let up so after dinner I decided to walk down to the mailboxes and see what was there. (We're also expecting something important forwarded by the post office.) As I went out, I saw what looked like a small poster on the grass sort of in front of the neighboring townhouse, but since I was expecting an Amazon package I went to check. It was an Amazon envelope! Yay! I wondered if maybe both things I'd ordered had come in the same envelope after all.
I opened it up and it was a children's book I'd ordered - definitely the more important and valuable of the items I was waiting for.
(Written by my friend's son - find out more about Moses and the Colorful Burning Bush by Daniel Gauthier)
But nothing else. And neither was there anything in the mailbox. Later in the evening I checked those delivery emails yet again and looked very closely at the photo. I was certain there were two packages in the photo, and I'd expected two packages, so where was the smaller one? (It was just shoelaces. Not a huge loss if I had to reorder, except that I can't wear those shoes until they have laces.) My husband said to take the flashlight and go out for another quick look. So I did and after wandering along in the cold drizzle for a few minutes, I did find the package - it had blown all the way across the yards and was up against a tree almost to the curb. Yay!!
I HAD received my shoelaces after all!
You see, Amazon had delivered, but I hadn't received.
I had to go out there and search a little bit in order to find that what was promised had been waiting there for me, but I hadn't gone to the door to accept delivery and to get it into my hands, and even when I first saw it I didn't recognize what it was.
God has delivered and will deliver on every one of his promises. Every. One. God answers every prayer prayed in the name of Jesus. If we don't think our prayer has been answered, it's because we aren't looking in the right place or have been fooled by the wind and rain into thinking he hasn't heard us.
In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.
~John 16:23-24~
Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
~Hebrews 4:16~
Sometimes we may ask God for success, and He gives us physical and mental stamina. We might plead for prosperity, and we receive enlarged perspective and increased patience, or we petition for growth and are blessed with the gift of grace. He may bestow upon us conviction and confidence as we strive to achieve worthy goals. ~David A. Bednar

Thank you for this post, Kym. It is so easy, particularly at this time of year to sit and wait but you are right, sometimes we have to go out and look for what we expect to receive. I am your neighbour at ~13 on FMF

ReplyDeleteI tell you: ask, and you shall receive; seek, and you shall find; knock, and the door shall be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and everyone who seeks, finds; and to everyone who knocks the door will be opened.
Kym, you painted an excellent picture for us, a good reminder that sometimes we have to look past the obstructions to find the answers. :) FMF20
ReplyDeleteI love this Kym! “Seek and you shall find.”
ReplyDeleteKym ... I'm resonating with your delivery story ... sounds very familiar!
ReplyDeleteThis is powerful right here --> 'If we don't think our prayer has been answered, it's because we aren't looking in the right place or have been fooled by the wind and rain into thinking he hasn't heard us.'
God is knocking at the door,
ReplyDeletea quiet patient tapping sound
unlike what you've heard before
but it is in the background
of a life that's rushed by noise,
buy this, and do not fall behind!
Immerse yourself in earthly joys,
and let not Heaven fill your mind!
God's message is not overcome
(He's God, I mean, give me a break!),
but oftimes we let it fall among
the white noise clutter (big mistake!)
and when the sin-bill must be paid the bling we bought will be no aid.
Wise words Kym about perhaps we'e not looking in the right place.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'm glad you finally found both of your packages.
Kym, thank you for sharing this. I love when the natural teaches us or reminds us of spiritual principles. That's so good! Visiting from FMF #11 this week.
ReplyDeleteKym, I love the connections you made here. And I love your message with a great lesson.
ReplyDeleteThank you bunches for sharing this with Sweet Tea & Friends this month dear friend.
