Scripture and a Snapshot - Fill Me With Joy

LORD, you alone are my portion and my cup;
you make my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
surely I have a delightful inheritance.
I will praise the LORD, who counsels me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
I keep my eyes always on the LORD.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest secure,
because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
nor will you let your faithful one see decay.
You make known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

~Psalm 16:5-11~

Do you want to be filled with joy? We all want joy in our lives, of course! It begins with gratitude, with understanding how very good God is to us and that his 'boundary lines' are to keep us safe in his presence. This alone should get us praising God and encourage us to listen to his word. He protects us in this life and the next, as he shows us the path of life. If we want the fullness of joy God promises, what we need to do is make room for it in our hearts and lives. If our thoughts and actions are putting strife, anger, greed, bitterness, complaints and negativity into our container, there's less room for the joy of the Lord. We find our joy in his presence, and how can we hold onto those negative thoughts when we are in his presence and rejoicing in his goodness?

Joy is the serious business of heaven. ~C.S. Lewis

Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings. ~ William Arthur Ward
