Currently . . . January 8, 2026

The "Currently" link-up at the beginning of each month is now hosted at Coffee and Cocktails at the Casa. Our new hostess Amy posts a set of action verb prompts for the month and writers respond. So, without further ado, here are this month's prompts and what's happening currently . . .

***********

Loving - Things I'm loving right now include:

Our almost brand new car. It's shiny and comfortable and most importantly, reliable. We're still fooling with the Android Auto and a lot of little things in the controls that are different and we need to get used to, but overall, so happy to have this car! Not quite so happy about the car payments, but what are ya gonna do.

I'm sad that the holidays are over and it's back to just the two of us, but at the same time, I need the downtime. Such as it is! It's time to enjoy the gifts we got and get all the Christmas-y stuff put away. I got some really great gifts. From "second Christmas" I've got this great raven lamp (pardon the messy table) and a Scrabble message board. I need to decide where in the house they will live now that we're getting back to normal. The bulb that came with the lamp is super bright so I'm hunting for an Edison style bulb that's not quite so blinding. My other gifts include a birdfeeder with a built-in camera and some windchimes and a favorite book.

I got myself the Tim Hortons holiday mug and isn't he the cutest?

Not my best photo ever, but I love the new logo and jackets for Scioto Valley Chorus!

Resolving -  Well, I don't make New Year's Resolutions, per se, but I'm one of those people bloggers that likes to choose a Word of the Year that's meant to help me focus on an area of my life that I want to work on and grow in. I haven't written a post about it, but my focus in 2026 is going to be along the lines of "Pursue" or "Pursuit". I've worked on establishing better habits and making them part of the rhythm of my life over the past couple years (with varying degrees of success) and I really think that this year I need to push myself towards the finish line of my projects and goals. I'm a procrastinator by nature, but if I'm serious about getting something done, especially a big project, I need to break it down into some manageable chunks with a checklist and deadlines. Phase One is this and needs to be done by the end of this week, Phase Two is this and needs to be done by the end of the month, etc. So I guess that's what I'm resolving. To get stuff DONE. One of the things is that we want to buy a house this year. And obviously that clock is ticking and there is a deadline if we want to get it done by the time the current lease ends.

Planning - I need a plan for getting tags for the new car pretty soon. We were going to transfer the tags from the old car but decided to hold on to it for a bit longer. More my husband's job, but we need a plan for transporting that old car since it's not currently running. There's a lot of stuff I need to figure out how to get done, and need to plan for, now that I think about it.

Eating/Drinking - After the holidays and with the added expense of the car, we're trying to eat out less. And eat healthier too, becasue goodness knows I need to lose some weight. We had lamb chops earlier this week which were pretty good. I made a cheesy chicken and rice concoction in the instant pot for today's dinner which was really good comfort food. Always enjoying my morning and evening coffee, of course!

Watching/Reading - We have a list of movies we watch every Christmas season without fail, and there were a couple we didn't get to yet, so we watched A Christmas Carol starring Alastair Sim on Tuesday, and will watch White Christmas tomorrow night. We do watch hockey quite often. Or hubby does, he watches his team. We enjoy going to the Blue Jackets games, but the last one we went to turned out to be a disappointment when the Jackets lost in overtime.

Usually I add a Coffee Break Reading List as a bonus at the end of my Currently post. even when "reading" isn't one of the prompts. This time it is a prompt, but I'm actually reading only one book at the moment.

I'm currently reading . . .

A Certain Darkness by Anna Lee Huber

Quotable (I've enjoyed hunting up little quotes to sprinkle into my posts, and I host a regular Wednesday Quotes link party based on interesting quotes. I share one or two here as a sort of teaser for the link-up.):

Consider this your invitation to stop by the current link-up and join us: WQ - New Year's Resolutions. The link-up is open for two weeks, and the next one will open on January 21st, with the theme: Motivation.
