Wednesday Hodgepodge - My Cup of Tea

A hodgepodge is a jumble or assortment of things that might not appear to belong together. Joyce at From This Side of the Pond hosts a weekly link-up called Wednesday Hodgepodge that is a little collection of questions for bloggers to answer just for fun and to get to know each other. I always look forward to chatting with friends over coffee, so pour a cup of your favorite and let's visit for a few minutes!

Here are this week's questions - and my answers - for this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge.

1.  Besides Thanksgiving, something on your November calendar you're looking forward to?

We have tickets to one Blue Jackets game in November, to see my husband's favorite team, the Montreal Canadiens. Also looking forward to his birthday, which happens to be right at Thanksgiving.

2. Dictionary.com's word of the year is '6-7'. Huh?

Is it even a word??? I had to consult the internet to find out its meaning because apparently I'm old and this particular slang is not part of my vocabulary. Is it part of yours? According to the article I read, it's a viral term, more of an inside joke with an unclear meaning driven by social media.

What do you think?

Dictionary.com says its selection each year is a 'linguistic time capsule reflecting social trends and events, but they also admitted to being confused by '6-7'. Some say it means so-so and is sometimes accompanied by the up and down hand motion we associate with the phrase so-so.

What word do you think  would have made a better choice?

6-7 is not a word, and since it doesn't have a real meaning, it's kind of a dumb choice for "word" of the year. One of the stupider trendy things some of the kids are saying, and I'm kind of hearing that the kids are getting tired of it, so that makes it an even more ridiculous choice for "word" of the year, if it's already past being popular. I don't know what I would suggest instead, but something that has a meaning and had a slightly longer shelf life would be good.

3. What's a food, trend, activity, or thing people love but you think is just so-so?

Pumpkin spice lattes. Don't come for me! It's just not my favorite. Or my 'cup of tea'. If it makes you feel any better, I don't particularly care for peppermint mocha lattes either, and that season is almost upon us.

4. Are you a tea drinker? Hot or cold? How do you like yours and at what time of day? Do you like flavored teas or teas billed as calming, energizing, healing, etc?

I rarely drink hot tea, but I do like iced tea. My favorite is iced chai. I choose sweet tea a lot during summer afternoons and evenings. During the colder months, I occasionally like a hot herbal tea or hot chai in the evening. When it comes to hot drinks, I prefer coffee unless I'm feeling a little under the weather, or my throat is a bit scratchy. Then a nice herbal tea with honey or a hot chai feels so comforting.

5.  The November Hodgepodge has always included a weekly gratitude question. Here's the question for today - what are three things that make your heart sing?

 1) Actually singing! Singing with others genuinely makes my heart sing too. 2) Hugs from my loved ones. I'm not much of a hugger in general, but the big bear hugs from my sons, the sweet hugs from my daughter, the boisterous or cuddly hugs from my granddaughters . . . can't get enough!  3) A gorgeous sunrise or sunset. Provided I'm not being forced to squint at it while driving directly towards it.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I came out of semi-retirement from posting reviews to participate in the review and giveaway promotion for the Peace of God Bible. I enjoy doing these kinds of reviews, but I don't do them often any more because the social media campaign isn't my cup of tea these days. All that said, I'm glad I did this one because it really is a beautiful Bible and I do get to give one away as well. You can read my review and enter the giveaway here: Peace of God Bible (Review and Giveaway)

While I'm promoting my own stuff, here's my reminder about the current Wednesday Quotes link-up which you can find here: WQ - Stargazing. Our topic this time around is Night Skies/Stargazing. Stop by and share a few thoughts and quotes! A new Everyday Images photo link-up is coming tomorrow, and I'm still short one photo for a prompt that was more challenging than I expected!

What's your cup of tea? Leave a comment and let me know!

  1. Oh I had to giggle at your comment about sunsets; I like them too but definitely not when they are blinding me while driving. This time of year that seems to happen more than usual. I don't drink pumpkin spice lattes or peppermint mocha lattes either; though I know that last one is my mom's favorite.

    1. It seems I'm doomed to either drive directly into a sunrise or a sunset on my commutes at certain times of the year! I do like the peppermint mocha hot cocoa, but in my opinion it's much too sweet for a coffee drink. The gingerbread or eggnog lattes are much better, in my opinion. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  2. It sounds like you have some lovely plans for November.
I like Pumpkin spice lattes but only at the start of Autumn, now I am all about the Christmas drinks. hehehe
Your answers for question #5 did make me smile.

    1. I do like Christmas flavored lattes and coffees, as long as they aren't TOO sweet, and the peppermint mocha is definitely too sweet for me. Glad you got a smile from my answers! Your sweet comments always make me smile - thank you!

  3. We were talking yesterday about how the sunset at its brightest this time of year seems to hit just at eye level. I will pop over for your photo prompts. I missed the last ones. It's been busy here, which I say too much, but October was full. Have a nice day!

  4. Yes, to singing for the makes my heart sing answer. Singing has been a big part of our lives and it is even how Greg and I met. I'm cracking up at your gifs for the lattes! Too funny. I'm linking up to your everyday images now...

  6. Lots of hockey coming up - I love it!! We are hoping to see our Stars again soon. With my son’s hockey schedule, it’s hard to make it to a game. We went a couple of weeks ago and had so much fun. I love your gratitude list, so sweet!

    1. I love all the hockey, but it can be a challenge to fit it into the schedule. The quarter-season package for the Blue Jackets works out just about right for us. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  7. I'm not fond of mint and chocolate so I'm assuming that would be like Peppermint and Mocha, right? I like pumpkin pie spice in a pie or pumpkin bread, but I've never had a PSL!

    1. Yes, that's peppermint mocha - it's just too sweet for my liking. And I feel the same about pumpkin pie spices. I love them, just not necessarily in my coffe. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  8. I actually texted my granddaughter to find out how to us 6-7 in a sentence. She said it's just a filler for when you don't have anything to say...a bit like the kids used to say, "Whatever." I agree it shouldn't be in a dictionary at all, let alone word of the year. Who makes these choices (also colors of the year)? I am not a coffee drinker of any kind so I've never even tasted pumpkin spice latte. But, I only like pumpkin bread and cake. I don't even like pumpkin pie. I like hot tea and really need to drink more of that instead of all the Diet Coke I consume. I agree about sunsets because it's now the time of day when I have to drive to church for meetings. And, I have to drive west!

    1. Yes, your granddaughter's description of 6-7 is spot on - why would we make a meaningless filler the 'word of the year'? How silly.
As beautiful as those sunsets and sunrises are, it is a challenge when they are right at the horizon I'm driving towards! First world problems, I suppose?
