I'm not totally the life of the party, but I lean towards that side, and how far I'm leaning depends on the type of party and how well I know others there. I think I'd describe myself as a reserved extrovert so I won't grab the mic and dominate at karaoke or start a conga line, but I'm happy to meet and talk to people, tell stories around the table, play games, etc.
I guess dinner parties would be my favorite from the list, because a celebratory dinner could be for any number of occasions, and could be indoors or outdoors, casual or dressy. Getting together with folks and sharing a meal is one of the best ways to build friendships and community.
Good relationships usually improve with age. There aren't guarantees, but a good marriage builds strength with each weathered storm, shared joy, and renewed commitment. Good friendships get better as you add memories and shared experiences and get to know each other better.
3. How do you feel about your birthday? How do you want to be celebrated? Or don't you?
I look forward to my birthday every year and enjoy the day, but I keep it low-key. My birthday is right after Christmas so the best part is that usually my family is all around. But the downside to my birthday is that it's a lot all at the same time - kind of jammed in with all the holiday things. I do like to be celebrated by spending time with my family and some friends if possible, so dinner out and eating whatever dessert I want to is usually enough party for me. If it works out that I can go out with a couple of friends at some point as well, that's a bonus.

The plate says "Cherish the Moments" although of course it's a good idea to cherish Mom as well. |
An internet search turned up these tidbits:
- ether first used in childbirth - Jefferson, GA in 1845 (so it wasn't for my birth haha)
- in 1903 the song "Sweet Adeline" by Richard Husch Gerard and Harry Armstrong was first sung. As you might guess by the name, it was a barbershop quartet favorite, and inspired the name of the women's barbershop organization founded in 1945, Sweet Adelines International
I think my chorus and my church are two really good things in my life these days. I mean, there are so many good things that it's hard to decide how to name just two, or name two that are broad enough to include lots of aspects of goodness. Being in the chorus is a good thing because it's so much fun and so rewarding in many ways. Our church family is great and I feel like we are contributing positively there and we belong.
The weather has been keeping us guessing lately! We were starting to get those brisk foggy mornings and hints of autumn, even some rain, and now this week the temperatures are back in the mid 80s. I'm kind of disappointed that we didn't make use of the pool the last weekend it was open, but it wasn't all that hot then. Now you could make a case for it being pool weather, but the pool is closed. Believe me, I'm not complaining, it's just amusing. Probably happens every year, but if it wasn't for the weather, what would we talk about?
We're talking about "Making and Keeping Promises" in the current Wednesday Quotes link-up which you can find here: WQ - Keeping Promises. Stop by and share a few thoughts and quotes! The current Everyday Images photo link-up is open until next week.
What kind of party is your favorite? Leave a comment and let me know!
Congratulations to your chorus group! I'm similar to you when it comes to parties. And also grateful for a long marriage. We were wishing we'd brought swim suits to my daughter's house so we could have taken the kids swimming, but when we left home it was very fall like temps so we didn't think we'd want to swim. It got warm though and we have plans to meet friends here for a float this weekend as it's going to be near 90. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteIt's been mid and high 80s here all this week, but even if the pool was open I haven't had the time to swim. I think I'm ready for more fall-like temperatures though. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteThat is cool about your birthday and the chorus group!
ReplyDeleteThat was the first I'd come across that fact and I thought it was fun! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI love your answer for #1. I feel the same about parties, not being the life and soul of one but I do like to join in and keep things going.
ReplyDeleteWhat interesting facts about your birthday! Good luck with the fall show!
The weather is keeping us guessing here too! This morning was cold and wet and this afternoon is so warm and the coats my family took out with them are definitely not needed.
I keep taking a light jacket with me to work each day and then I wind up taking it off and putting it back on all day long. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteCongratulations on your chorus group... that is so fun!
ReplyDeleteKeep us posted on how the show goes.

Thank you - I will definitely be sharing about the show! I appreciate your well-wishes!
DeleteI’m too tired to be the life of the party but I don’t mind sitting back and enjoying others.
ReplyDeleteThat’s good you belong to a chorus group. Excercising your gift from God.
Sometimes I feel that way too - I've done my part for the party and just need to let it happen around me. Thanks for your kind comments!
DeleteI did not know about your being member of a Sweet Adelines group - what a fun fact! - and an award winning one at that!! I think if my birthday were near Christmas, there would be less emphasis on gifts, which I would enjoy. At least, I would now. Maybe that would not have been as fun when I was a child! Yummy looking dessert, for sure!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was kid the lack of gifts for my birthday was not so very fun. Now I don't mind. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteWell that is fun about Sweet Adeline! Sounds like most of us not so much the life of a party hodgepodgers need to invite you to our parties. :) Hope this last week of summer is going well for you!
ReplyDeleteI think an in-person Hodgepodge party would be a lot of fun! Wish we could all do that. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteI am definitely not the life of the party, but I enjoy going to them. But, I will come up with a huge list of why I shouldn't go before I break down and go...that's the extroverted introvert in me. Congratulations on your Sweet Adeline's chorus! That's a wonderful achievement!

Thanks - I'm so proud to be part of this chorus, and feel very fortunate that I happened to get connected to this particular one. So glad you stopped by and commented - I appreciate you!
DeleteI enjoy a good dinner party too; for any reason, indoors or out! I'd definitely agree a good relationship improves with age.
ReplyDeleteDinner parties are the most versatile parties, I guess! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteI love how you described yourself as a “reserved extrovert” — I think a lot of us can relate to that depending on the setting. Dinner parties are such a good pick too… there’s something so special about gathering around a table to share stories and laughter. I thought it was so neat that your birthday trivia tied in with your Sweet Adelines chorus…what a fun connection! I love that you highlighted both your chorus and your church as your “good things” …community really does make all the difference.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your comment, I see that this Hodgepodge was a very community-oriented one for me. I love how people can come together around the table, in a church setting, and how making music together is a community-builder too. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteI prefer dancing then sitting at a table for hours and eat ! Even if it is very good, often it is too long especially here in Belgium you sit at table for 4 hours ! We had real summer weather today, I think with the climate change we will have warm temperatures even at Christmas !
ReplyDeletefour hours is too long to sit at the table - one needs a break doing something else and dancing is a great choice! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
