I think I probably use the Old Bay most often. Or could be basil or oregano. I use those all the time, and frequently use paprika and garlic powder. I can't think of any spice flavor that I genuinely dislike, although I may be reminded of them when I start reading other answers! Let's see, I recently made Chicken Florentine, which I season liberally with basil, oregano, and thyme.
I certainly have a lot of routines and things I do regularly, but I also get impatient with the same old same old. I get bored if things are too repetitive and like to switch things up. So I may do my nails every Saturday, but I almost never do the same nail colors two weeks in a row. I have my go-to recipes but I don't like getting into a rut of having the same meal every Thursday. I like to have lots of coffees to choose from, several options for snacks, a wide variety of music to listen to and books to read, and I like to try a different route to a familiar place every once in awhile.
3. What's something in your life that adds 'spice' (excitement, intensity) even if it also comes with challenge or unpredictability?
It's hard to think of much in my life that is spicy or exciting at the moment. Haha. I guess there's a challenge and unpredictability factor to chorus. There's new things to learn and we're always stretching ourselves to be better and add excitement to our performance. I am helping with the annual show this year and that is a big challenge and something totally new for me, so I anticipate it adding spice to my life in the days ahead.
Playing another instrument. My first choice would be guitar. I'd love to just instantly be able to play well and confidently. I also have a vintage dulcimer that I intend to learn how to play, and it would save me a lot of time and trouble if I could just magically master it in an instant!
Well, hmmm. I don't watch many movies, so I guess I'll recommend a book. One I finished recently, despite it being on my shelf for a very long time. Killers of a Certain Age by Deanna Raybourn is a thriller, but with a lot of humour. One of the review lines in the blurb says it's like Golden Girls meets James Bond, which I'd say was pretty accurate. The premise is that four sixty-something women retire from active service as professional assassins and realize they are are now on the organization's kill list. They have to work together to stay ahead of those who are targeting them, find out why they are being targeted, and come up with a plan to kill or be killed. I found it very enjoyable, and this is one of my favorite authors. (Warnings: Not gory, but obviously there's violence, and there is a fair amount of 'colorful' language)
As you might be able to tell from the graphic for the book, I'm doing the 52 Book Club Challenge again this year (even though I never get to 52 books any more!), and I'm doing the additional Connections Challenge. Well, some do an additional number of books for the mini-challenges, but not me. This is technically a mini-challenge for the summer, but I thought it looked interesting and will just work my way through it without worrying about finishing by the end of summer. I think I'll probably go till the end of the year and see how far I get through the prompts.

What's adding spice to your life these days? Leave a comment and let me know!
That book you recommended would make a good movie or miniseries. :) After reading several hodgepodgers answers I'd like to do a re-do. Ha! Why didn't I think of that. Hope the rest of your week is wonderful spicy or not!
ReplyDeleteIt would make a great movie, wouldn't it? I often want a do-over after reading other hodgepodges because even when I link late, my rule for myself is to complete my post before reading any others. Then I'm always wondering "why didn't I think of that? Of course!" LOL Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteSpices are the best! Thanks for reminding me of Old Bay -- tis the season and I need to rescue my tin of it before I get to the lake and have to buy a new one! Thyme is my go-to spice; then basil and oregano!
ReplyDeleteMy family thinks it odd how much I use Old Bay for since I don't eat seafood, especially crabs! But it's perfect for chicken and beef too, IMO. Thanks for stopping by and commenting and I'm glad I could jog your memory!
DeleteThyme is one of my favorites but I forgot to mention it. Funny how when you read other people's answers you think of all the things you didn't think to say. I find this happens every week. I saw your comment on my book post...if you've like me to send you the Rebecca St. James book I'd be happy to pop it in the mail for you to have. You can email me your address if so-jdpres07@googlemail.com. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThyme is an herb I've only come to appreciate in recent years but it's so nice for lamb and chicken. That's such a sweet offer and I thank you, but I think I will pass, simply because I fear I wont get to read it in a timely manner. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteAlso, I don't know how I let so many typos through in that comment, but my excuse is I just woke up : )
ReplyDeletehaha I think I probably have a lot of typos in comments, especially on the blogs that have smaller font. That's my excuse
DeleteI like to use oregano too.
ReplyDeleteOregano is good in just about everything! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteThat book sounds great so I just ordered it for my kindle. One of our neighbors is very musically inclined and sings and plays several instruments - one of which is the dulcimer!
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy the book! That's neat about your neighbor - I don't think the dulcimer is very commonly known instrument. It doesn't seem difficult, just a new skill set to learn. I'm always amazed by people who have the ability to quickly pick up any instrument and play well (like my daughter). Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteThose are interesting spices you use. Interesting answer for your spice of life. Interesting, nobody that I read said a guitar. It was mainly piano. So you don't watch movies. That's interesting. Seriously, you will be reading that many books. Good luck with that.
ReplyDeleteI guess since I already play piano I didn't need to instantly master it. Not that I'm a master pianist but I think I do a decent job! LOL I know I won't be able to read all the books for the 52 book club challenge, but I just do as many as I can and am happy with that. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteI realized I don't have your email address. Here is my comment from your comment on my blog....
ReplyDeleteI don't bake much anymore either.
It's been fun playing with James. I played with 16 women years ago. We would take turns on who would host. We did the for like 10 years or more.
Thank you. dpucci9972@gmail.com can yiu send me your email.
