I've made so many mistakes, you'd think I would have learned a lot from them, but I'm having a hard time being specific! I accidentally locked my keys in my car a long, long time ago and it was so embarrassing having to call my husband to drive across town to bring the spare keys. That really stuck with me, and when we started driving cars with key fob locks, I made it my personal rule to always lock the car with the fob after getting out, never with the little lock button on the door. Because that way I know that I know that I know that the keys are in my hand.
I add salt while cooking, but with a light touch. I think diners can add their own salt if they want more. I tend to use other herbs to add flavor, and use salt just to enhance. (My husband usually thinks I should have added more!) I almost never add salt to my own food at the table, or very little. Eggs are the food that MUST have salt! I do like pepper, but I use it as I'm cooking and rarely add it to my food at the table.
3. What was the last gathering you attended and what did you do there?
Just last week, I was with some of my family and I suppose it could be considered a partial family gathering. I went to visit two of my aunts who live in an assisted living apartment. My parents, my brother and sister-in-law and niece, and another aunt and uncle were also there. Mostly we sat around and visited, though the aunties also got me to play their keyboard and we sang some gospel songs and hymns together.
I guess a royal purple? Somewhere around the center of the spectrum between blue and red. I never used to like purple to wear, but now I have two or three t-shirts in purple and I love them. Not sure how I'd choose a favorite purple flower . . . I like too many and I'm lousy and choosing favorites. Pansies, crocuses, and lilacs are the ones that come to mind. Daisy-shaped flowers of all kinds and tulips are my favorite flowers, and they come in shades of purple too
We haven't often travelled in spring as a family, since it's a very busy time at my husband's work, so he doesn't take vacation time in spring. In 2023 we travelled back to Maryland in May for our daughter's graduation from university, which also happened to be right before Mother's Day, so that was a really special trip.
Since I skipped last week's Hodgepodge while I was on vacation, I am answering a couple of questions in this week's random thought section. One fun thing on my April calendar is that a cousin of mine I haven't seen in a couple of decades will be in our area so we are getting together.
The last thing I wasted money on . . . I bought a bunch of Canadian snack foods to bring back on my recent trip, which I guess was sort of a waste.
I do enjoy lamb, and wish we could have it more often. My favorite dish is lamb kebabs and that has become our traditional Resurrection Sunday meal. I usually buy a boneless leg of lamb and cut it up to put in a pomegranate molasses marinade and then we grill the kebabs. So good!!
Do I fit a stereotype in some way? I thought of some of the stereotypes that I associate with grandmas - sewing and quilting and being rather old-fashioned in preferences - and I don't fit those. However, I do love birdwatching, which I often jokingly call my "old lady hobby" and as I've gotten older I've realized that there is a compulsion of older moms and grandmas to want to make sure their people are fed, and I think that's a stereotype I could fit. I don't go by the title "Grandma" because that brings to mind a stereotype that I don't think I'd fit, but as "Nonny" I suppose I fit a lot of stereotypes anyway!
How would you answer some of these questions? Leave a comment and let me know!
That is a good lesson about locking the car doors.
ReplyDeleteThe family get together sounds lovely, what a great time you all had.
What pretty flowers!
That is great that you are going to catch up with your cousin and your lamb meal sounds delicious.
It was a very good visit with family and I'm grateful for that opportunity to see them, and looking forward to catching up with the cousin too. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteGood lesson about the keys! Those lamb kebabs sound delicious - especially in that marinade!!
ReplyDeleteThe lamb kebabs are so good - I wish I felt like I could afford lamb more often, it's such a treat. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteDefinitely smart about the car keys!
ReplyDeleteSince I have a push button start on the car, it's been a good rule for myself because it would be so easy to lock them in the car. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteYEP... the same thing here with the car keys. My husband reminds me to do just as you shared!! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the photos of the aunts.... sweet, all dressed up.

The aunties are 95 and 97 years young and looking good, I think! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteI love that the newer cards don't allow you to lock the door if the key fob is in the car! That sounds like a lovely family gathering.
ReplyDeleteYes, I found out in a panic moment that my car will not lock immediately if the fob is still inside and I didn't make that mistake a second time either! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteThe car companies have made it hard to lock your keys in the car. Years ago my hubs did it twice in one week. He had our little ones with him so was distracted, but it was kind of funny the second time. Not to him lol. How fun to meet up with a cousin you haven't seen in ages. Enjoy your time together!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the car companies have some safeguards in place, because with the keyless start it's easy to forget. Looking forward to catching up with my cousin. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteKym, I appreciate you stopping over. Our furniture is 18 years old but the cushions, which we love, are brand new. My week has actually been stressful. I do not have your email address so I could not respond to your comment. I enjoyed reading your answers and the family gathering sounds very nice. How nice that you sang songs. The photos of the flowers are so pretty. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI love when you can give old furniture new life and a new look with just new cushions. Thanks for stopping by and for your kind comments!
DeleteI am pretty sure I've learned lots of lessons from mistakes, but coming up with one right now is beyond me...especially at almost midnight. My favorite color is purple in almost any shade as long as it's grounded in blue. I had forgotten about pansies...I love the deep purple ones with the yellow faces! I don't think I fit the grandma stereotype, but I'm not sure there is one anymore. I don't think I've seen any hanging about lately!

Those deep purple pansies with a touch of yellow are my favorite variety as well. I do think the grandma stereotype has been changing, as most of the grandmothers I know look young and stylish and are active and I always thought of my own grandmothers as being very old and old-fashioned. The perspective of a child, perhaps? thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteEver since the Friends episode where they got locked out of the apartment on Thanksgiving, my husband and I often say to each other, "Got the KEEEEYS?!?!?!" It's a fun way to remember them and not lock each other out!
