Share Four Somethings - September 2024

Happy Fall! I'm taking a quick look back on the month to share Something Loved, Something Accomplished, Something Improved Upon, and Something Noticed.  I'm going to continue adding my Something Read and What's Coming Up Soon

Something Loved

We visited the corn maze and sunflower field at Timbuk Farms last weekend.

Something Accomplished

This was also something loved, by the way! The Scioto Valley Chorus show was a huge accomplishment! For the chorus as a whole, but it was the first time I had family and friends in the audience to see me perform with the chorus, so it was a big deal for me. The show was great and was so much fun to do, and thankfully I heard nothing but compliments from my people!

Something That Needs Improvement

We've been saying for almost as long as we've lived here that we really need to clean up our little patio and make it useful. Which would require us to have some kind of patio furniture ideally, and we don't have any at this point. I think we'd be motivated to acquire some if we tidied up the plants we do have out there and get rid of the weeds sprouted up around the fence.

Well, maybe there's a couple of motivating factors that will get us moving on it. First, the squirrels got in this planter and dug up our peanut plants, and left a mess we need to clean up. And second, my parents are coming for a visit and I don't think we want to be embarrassed to show them around!

Something Noticed (In our Lives or Around Town)

Most of the month has been summery warm, but it has been cooler at night. This past week it's been cooler during the day too, and we've finally been getting some much needed rain. It actually feels like fall now, and hopefully we'll start to see some colorful leaves too.

Something Read

It has not been a good month for reading, so I'm still working on the same books that I mentioned last month. That's almost embarrassing to admit. I've kind of stalled with Sisters of Fortune by Anna Lee Huber again, but I just finished Blood of Adam by Rachel S. Neal. I'm reading that one on my Kindle, so it's easier to take along to work, and that happens to be where I'm doing most of my reading these days. A half hour a day doesn't get me through pages fast enough.

Since I haven't been reading very much, I haven't written much at my book blog Just A Second this month, but I will be writing my review of Blood of Adam shortly and doing a monthly bookshelf summary.

What's Coming Up Soon?

October will be busy with family and family activities. We'll be going to Ontario for sort of high school reunion for my husband. Then we'll meet up with my parents and bring them back to Ohio to spend a couple weeks with us. We'll go to Maryland to spend a few days with the family there before taking Mom and Dad back to Ontario for their trip home. We won't be together with all the celebrations, but during October two of my sons have birthdays, two of my sisters-in-law have birthdays, my niece has a birthday, my son and daughter-in-law celebrate an anniversary, and my parents celebrate an anniversary! Plus there's Thanksgiving (the Canadian edition!) in the middle of the month. We're still thinking about how we'll do Thanksgiving; whether we'll celebrate with just our son and his family or invite others to join us as we usually do.

Also!! Announcement!!

The Wednesday Quotes link-up is starting up again, and I will be co-hosting with Sadje at Keep It Alive. The link-up will be every other week starting on Wednesday, October 2nd. See more here: Wednesday Quotes Returns!

  1. When I saw the book by Rachel S. Neal, I thought it looked interesting and come to find out I have it in my Kindle Library and now have it set up to start reading sometime today. Thanks for showing it and I'll look forward to reading your review. October sounds fun and very busy for you. One of these days I would love to come and see a show by your group. Hope you have a great day Kym.

    1. I had Blood of Adam sitting on my kindle for ages before I finally started reading! Overall it was very good and I liked that it fleshed out unnamed characters in a plausible way and made me think about what pre-flood life might have been like for Noah's family. I'd love to meet you if you come to a show - I will try to keep sharing info here! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

    1. Whole fields of sunflowers are not a common sight around here, so even this smaller one is pretty special. Such a cheery flower! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  3. That sounds like you will be having a very busy and full October; how wonderful to have so many plans centered around family! That is so neat that you can visit a corn maze and sunflower fields in one! While we have both up here sunflowers bloom in early July so they are long gone by the time fall corn mazes crop up.

    1. Yes, I feel like there's so much to look forward to in October and I'm pretty excited. As it turned out, we didn't spend a whole lot of time in the corn maze, since we were trying to beat the rain and keep our granddaughter interested, but it would be a fun one to explore with a group. I think it was the first time I'd ever visited a sunflower field that was planted for the purpose of photo ops! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
