I waited in traffic, especially one day last week when there were four accidents in about a two or three mile stretch of the Interstate, and everything was moving so slowly. We waited four or five days for the pharmacy and the doctor's office to get on the same page so we could pick up a prescription refill for my husband. I've waited on hold on the phone a lot recently, which I hate.
I loved to play "School" with one of my friends. We took turns being the "teacher" because we both really wanted to be teachers when we grew up.
I loved spending time with my grandparents. I liked to bake with my Grandma, and although I had to refine my skills a lot when I was older (and had renewed my interest), I think being allowed to help her make zwieback inspired me to work on those skills. I also learned a lot about loving and welcoming all kinds of people as family from my Grandma.
I've been to Paris and London in Ontario, but I don't think those are the cities on that list! So no, I haven't been to any of those. And it's a toss-up between Paris and London which I'd most like to see! I would say I'm leery about international travel, about flying mostly. I'm not completely opposed or frightened, but I'm not really comfortable either, so I would weigh it very carefully before I made international travel plans.
February is the perfect month to stay inside and read; to work on a new hobby or discipline (because it's exactly four weeks long - easy to track as you establish a habit); to get your taxes done. And yes, I need to buy our annual software program so we can get ours done. Trying to contain my boundless enthusiasm for the task . . . Oh, here's something more fun: February is the perfect month to do some birdwatching, because of the annual Great Backyard Bird Count. I never participate as fully as I'd like, but it kind of renews my interest.
We visited the Carillon Historical Park in Dayton on Saturday, and I never knew how much innovation and invention came from this relatively smal city! Their little slogan is "you can't go a day without Dayton" and there are quite a few things we use in everyday life that we owe to Dayton's brilliant minds. Like the cash register, which led to receipts, and to banking machines and ATMs, and self-checkout machines! And the LCD technology used in many of those machines and on your favorite electronic devices! Or how about the the electric starter for cars? Even pop-tops for canned beverages! And of course, we know the Wright brothers, who invented the airplane, were Dayton sons. Pretty wild that all these things come from this one town! The museum is super interesting, with so much to see that we are sure we'll be going back to explore some more.
Was hard to get a clear photo of the eagle in that huge nest, since I had to zoom in, but I did my best. |
What's something you've waited for recently? Was it worth waiting for? Leave a comment and let me know!
Wow...that is a quite the list of accomplishments from Dayton! Sounds like your grandmother was Mennonite judging from the Zwieback. We are still waiting for a good full day of sunshine here in the NE corner of Washington state! This whole week has gotten away from me and I'm late visiting Hodgepodgers! Happy Thursday to you.
ReplyDeleteYes, that's right - both my parents are from Mennonite families! My weeks always seem to be full lately, especially the middle of the week, so I'm also late visiting the Hodgepodgers! I will have to visit everyone tomorrow and catch up on reading and commenting. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI hope to visit Paris, France before I die. It's a real dream for me. I don't really wait for things very often as I usually show up right as something is supposed to happen. That's because I'm a terrible wait-er! I detest waiting for meetings to start. Give me the time you want me to be there, and I'll be there. But, start when you say you will...sort of a pet peeve! Oh, I bet you wish you hadn't asked!

I also hate waiting around when something was supposed to start at a certain time! Start when you say you will, and that will teach people to be on time. I tend to be running late an awful lot, but sadly I've also learned that at some places it doesn't matter so there's little incentive to hustle. I used to always say about our church that it did no good to have a countdown to when the service started if there wasn't an explosion and we ACTUALLY started when the clock got to zero! LOL Thanks for stopping by and commenting! I'm always glad to hear your thoughts!
DeleteWe were just talking about the Backyard Bird Count on our hike today! My sister and I used to play school all the time; we even had a small desk/chair set.
ReplyDeleteI was always a bit jealous of my friend because she had a blackboard in her playroom and such a great set-up to pretend we were in school! Good times! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
