This time around the theme for the Not Just A Mom Link-up is a day in our everyday life - but on the weekend. I'm glad it's a weekend day because my weekdays have little to distinguish one from another, and they are really quite boring! Even my Saturdays are quite a bit like weekdays at this point, but there's a better chance of us doing something different in the evenings. I didn't plan this Day in the Life in advance, so I'll give a rundown of yesterday.
On Sundays we typically sleep a bit later than usual. Even with losing the "Spring Forward" hour (grumble grumble), we could sleep in compared to weekdays. Our morning coffee wasn't quite as leisurely as most Sundays though, and we rushed a little in getting dressed and ready to go to church.
10:30am - I knew it would be colder, but was still surprised that there was snow on the ground when we went out! We were a couple minutes late to church as a result, but enjoyed the service and the chance to interact even briefly with new acquaintances afterwards.
12pm - We made a quick stop at the grocery store so I could pick up a couple things to make lunch.
12:30pm - Home, changed into casual clothes, and lunch put in the oven.
1pm - Our son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter arrived and we were able to eat almost right away. Cheeseburger sliders, Mac & Cheese, and veggies on the menu. After a leisurely meal and conversation, I tidied the kitchen and dining room up a bit and we got ready to head out on this week's exploration and adventure!
2:30pm - We arrived at our adventure destination. Because my husband and I are new to the Columbus area, we try to find something new to us to explore each weekend. When we can do something with our son and his family, that's even better! We look for things our granddaughter will find interesting and that won't cost a ton of money. This week it was the Columbus Museum of Art, which is free on Sundays.
4:30pm - The museum closes at five, so we headed back to the car and chose a coffee shop to try out. We'd just decided to start working on visiting the coffee shops in the Columbus Coffee Trail app. Unfortunately we couldn't find free parking close to the shop we first chose, so we looked for alternative choices on the list, and after only a little frustration and a bit more driving, we found one with on-site parking! Yay for mochas and the first stop on the coffee trail completed!
5:30pm - Headed back to our place and debated how hungry we were and if they had time to stay for dinner. Hubby and I had been to the hockey game on Saturday evening so we knew about a half-off pizza deal (since the Blue Jackets scored at least two goals) and we agreed we would take advantage of that. I ordered the pizza soon after we got back home and then went to pick it up.
7pm - While enjoying our pizza, we had watched a little TV and played a few guessing games with our granddaughter, made tentative plans for the next couple weekends, and then it was time for them to go home. I tidied up the kitchen - again! - and went to check on the laundry situation and sit down at the computer for a bit to see what had been happening in my email and social media world.
9pm - Hubby and I enjoyed an evening cup of coffee - yes, third coffee break of the day! - and wound down for the night. Had time to read for awhile before trying to get some sleep. I don't typically get to bed that early but I guess that lost hour caught up with me!

That sounds like such a fun day of exploring!
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to spend time with your family. It's neat that you're exploring things in your home town.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your day. I love how you are going on adventures to explore your new community.
ReplyDeleteThough I tend to work weekends and weekdays, the work is different. A lot more office type work during the week and showing houses on the weekend.
Thanks for joining us. I love the idea of being intentional about trying new places/activities when new to a city. I feel like both our weekends and weekdays are very busy...just the season of life we are in. This weekend was a bit slower paced which I needed and appreciated.
ReplyDeleteI love sleeping late on a Sunday.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a lovely day. It sounds like fun exploring each weekend. The art gallery sounds great and a bonus that it's free.
I'm so happy you linked up with us this week! I am originally from Ohio, (Cincinnati) but have been to Columbus many times. I'm not sure where you moved from, but I hope you are loving Columbus. If you like German food, you should try Schmidt's in the German Village-- it's to die for! And if you've moved from out of state then I'm sure you're noticing the many fabulous ice cream places around town. We love Graeter's, UDF (yes, the gas station) and Jeni's. Have you had Skyline chili yet?
ReplyDeleteLauren @ Don't Mind Our Mess
we have visited the German Village several times in the past, but I don't think we ever ate at Schmidt's - I will add it to my list of places to check out! We're kind of saving the ice cream places for when it's a bit warmer! LOL I haven't had Skyline Chili since we've lived here, but I have had it and love it.
DeleteI didn't know you lived in Columbus, OH! I'm in Indianapolis! I love the Franklin Conservatory. They have seasonal exhibits and lots of Chihuly installations! Your day sounds perfect because of the addition of grandchildren!

Yes, we love the Franklin Conservatory, and I especially like the Chihuly pieces there. Indeed, grandchildren make everything better!
