Share Four Somethings - September 2025

Each month we're each invited to share things in these categories: Some Things I Loved, Some Things I Learned, Some Things That Went Well, and Some Thing I Let Go Of. I usually like to include a little bit of a bonus: Some Things I  Read and a little of What's Coming Up Soon

Some Things I Loved:

With a few days that would be exceptions, I have loved the weather. I think fall weather might be my favorite, because I like sunny warm days and cooler nights. I rarely get to enjoy bonfires these days, but they're definitely best when it's cool enough that you really want to cozy up near the fire. I even like foggy mornings and those first days when there's a little touch of frost on the leaves. The sky seems bluer in September and into early October too.

We started off the month (Labor Day seems like for---ev----er ago now!) with a day trip to Cincinnati for the baseball game. It was a gorgeous day, perfecct for baseball, and we had a great time. Even if our Blue Jays lost the game that day. They've been a bit up and down lately, but overall we've been loving their season and are keeping fingers crossed for a successful playoff season for them too!

I also loved going on a couple of explore adventures during the month, including a day at the Dawes Arboretum, and a day spent in Sugar Creek.

Some Things I Learned:

I learned an awful lot about what goes into planning a show for the Scioto Valley Chorus! The show is coming up on Sunday, so we'll see how successful I was with my role on the show committee. In addition to the planning aspect, the focus has been on polishing little details of the music and making sure it's all performance-ready! The chorus just purchased new risers, so we're learning how to set them up and pack them away. I asked for a break from helping with that until after the show.

Some Things That Went Well:

I guess work has been going pretty well recently. I've been kept very busy and took on a couple of new-to-me responsibilities, but I'm feeling relatively comfortable with those things now. There's been quite a bit of catching up to do, but my manager approved for me to do overtime as needed, so in a sense my hours got a little more flexible. Since I'm putting in a little extra time here and there, I don't stress about it when I need to leave a little bit early some days, or the couple of days I had in the past two weeks where everything - but especially traffic! - went wrong in the morning and I got there late.

Some Things I Let Go Of:

My uncle passed away a couple weeks ago, and although I didn't know him very well, we'd been building a relationship with him by emails and the occasional phone call, and the loss hit me harder than I expected. I'm letting go of regrets that I didn't call him more often, that we weren't ever able to visit him, and that my kids didn't have much chance to get to know him. My mom will be traveling to look after his estate and settle everything, and that means it's very unlikely Mom and Dad will be able to come visit us in October as they'd hoped. So I'm letting go of that plan, tentative though it was. Also letting go of the possibility of any of the kids coming to visit us for Thanksgiving, as it doesn't look like that will work out either. I hadn't hung my hat on those things, but there's still a disappointment when family get-togethers I'd thought might happen won't happen after all.

What's Coming Up Soon?

The Scioto Valley Show is coming up on Sunday! Very soon!

Hockey season is here and we are sharing season tickets with friends again. The first game we attend is coming up this week!

Thanksgiving (the Canadian date) is coming up in a couple weeks and I'm hoping that we can host a little dinner party for some friends. Fingers crossed for that.
