Wednesday Hodgepodge Milestones

A hodgepodge is a jumble or assortment of things that might not appear to belong together. Joyce at From This Side of the Pond hosts a weekly link-up called Wednesday Hodgepodge that is a little collection of questions for bloggers to answer just for fun and to get to know each other. I always look forward to chatting with friends over coffee, so pour a cup of your favorite and let's visit for a few minutes!

Here are this week's questions - and my answers - for this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge.

1.  My very first edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge was published on November 10, 2010. Tell us something about your life from that era.

The Hodgepodge has been around for a long time, so why did it take me so long to find it? I guess I was focusing on a homeschool audience back in those days. So let's see . . . late fall of 2010 . . . My oldest son had graduated from our homeschool in spring, and he was in Baltimore at broadcast school. I had three students at home. My parents had come for a visit in October and we'd celebrated Thanksgiving (the Canadian one) with them and also the oldest two boys' birthdays. We got a new kitten that fall as well, our black cat named Pepper.

2. What's a song you love that relates to time in some way?

The first song that I thought of is kind of a sad one from the 80s - Time by The Alan Parsons Project.

 3. May is nearly upon us. When did you last need to yell 'MAY DAY - MAY DAY!!'?

I sure felt like yelling 'MAY DAY!' when I tripped and fell down hard last week. No one around to respond to my call for help though, and it wasn't like I needed an ambulance so I just groaned to myself and figured out how to get up and regroup.

4. How do you feel about food trucks? Is this a dining experience you enjoy? Do you have a favorite? What's something you've ordered from a food truck?

I love food trucks, and yes, I do enjoy getting a meal or snack from a truck. I can think of a few favorite food truck experiences - several times I've had excellent barbecue from a food truck, the time I had Montreal smoked meat poutine from a food truck at the Maryland Wine Festival come to mind. Last spring we went to a food truck festival in Newark, Ohio, and there were so many interesting cuisines to choose from! I wished the trucks had offered sample size menu items so we could have tried more different things. We had an Indian frybread pizza and chicken shawarma. Both excellent. I hope they have that festival again . . . it should be coming up soon if it's annual, so I'll have to check. The last time I ate from a food truck was on Sunday at the Tulip Festival. I had a meatball sub from an Italian food truck, and hubby had a lobster roll from the Cousins Maine Lobster food truck.

5.  We're bidding farewell to April . . . what are three adjectives you might use to describe the month you're leaving behind?

 dynamic, hopeful, pragmatic

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I struggled a little to come up with good descriptive words for my April. It feels like it was whirlwind busy, and I feel like I'm scrambling to keep up with so many things. At times I've felt like I was failing at the goals I had set for myself, but there was progress too. I'm glad the colonoscopy is over and I don't need to think about that for ten more years. (Dreading the bill though, not sure what to expect there) I'm mostly recovered from the fall I took last week. I finally found a dentist and I'm very happy with the practice I'm going to. Overall, I guess it was a good month!

As usual, I'm going to put in a plug for the current Wednesday Quotes, where the theme is Morning Routines. My morning routine, as you might guess, includes coffee every day, but unfortunately I don't usually have time to visit other blogs in the morning and have to try to do that in the evening. I'd love to have you stop by and share a little about your morning routine at WQ - The Morning Routine.

What milestones have you reached recently? Leave a comment and let me know!

Simple Meal Planning - Plan to Eat

  1. We have had the Cousins Lobster truck here a time or two and I love the food. The line was crazy! They were parked outside a brewery so you could bring your food in and sit which is usually the thing I don't like about food trucks-eating while standing. I feel like I've dropped the ball on more than a few things here recently. The kids move into their own house next week and I am thinking I'll get back into some better routines then. Have a great day!

    1. The Cousins truck seemed pretty popular and interesting - though I don't eat lobster etc so I kept my distance. LOL Hope your routines improve once the kids move! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  2. I only started joining in with the Hodgepodge this year and it's one of my favourite posts to write and linky to join in with.
Ouch! It's always so scary to fall when you are by yourself.
Those food trucks sound so good!

    1. I've been doing the hodgepodge for a bit longer than a year, and it's one of my favorites too. I'm being extra careful again, in order to avoid another fall - it reminded me how nasty a bit of carelessness or clumsiness can be. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  4. I have seen the Cousins Lobster foodtruck in Birmingham but I've never eaten there. I love the hodgepodge each week because I get to learn about so many other folks. I'm so glad you are ok after your fall. My morning routine is to get up at 5:00 and drink a Diet Pepsi and do a quick check of my email. I then head upstairs to ride my stationary recumbent bike for at least 30 minutes. Then I head downstairs and grab another diet pepsi (no criticism please) and hop in the shower. When I get out of the shower, I read my devotion and grab a bite of breakfast. Then I head back to the bathroom to dry my hair and put on a tiny amount of make-up, throw on my clothes, earrings, and shoes and drive to work!

    1. Sounds like a good morning routine - variety and doesn't seem like it's rushed. I guess mine is rushed because I don't get up earlier . . . LOL Thanks for stopping by and sharing!

  6. I have never eaten at a food truck. There are a few of them around, but we're always on our way somewhere. I love that Alan Parsons' song, but it is rather sad, isn't it? Glad your colonoscopy is over. I am luck and can do the mail away thing. I hope your new dentist helps you out with all the issues you've had. That's one doctor I never like to see!

    1. I never really thought about how sad that song was until I read the lyrics. It's haunting, I guess. I don't enjoy the dentist, but I think I'd rather see that doctor than the colonoscopy doctor! LOL Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  7. I think I started participating in the HP around a year ago. I like the questions and I have some great blogs like yours through it! Sorry to hear about your fall. And yes, thankfully you broke nothing! I have fallen many times and have been pretty lucky to not break a bone. Your food truck food looks good! I don't think I've ever seen a lobster roll truck... That trucks needs to come to southern Ohio (and I need to be at the right place!!) Have a great weekend!

  8. I find if I don't have the time to visit blogs in the morning then I won't visit at all. I'm so sorry to read about your fall. OYE! I hope you feel tip top soon. I'm glad my colonoscopy days are over. Hope you have a merry first weekend in May!
