When I summed up at the end of January, the goals I set for myself in February were to be consistent in getting my housework done, doing necessary things before leisure things, and getting my desk cleaned up and organized with a plan for keeping it that way going forward. I'm not so sure that I succeeded. I mean, I did get things done by the deadlines, but I was not nearly as disciplined about it as I had hoped. Because I'm already a week into March before sharing my progress, I'm going to keep it as short as possible!
The first day of the month wasn't exactly a big win and super start on all the projects I had in mind, but I did get to sleep in for a change, and that was actually glorious! We did get a meal plan done and went grocery shopping together so that was a positive.
Week One - February 2-8
On Sunday after church and a quick lunch and nap, we met up with the kids and went for a walk and we also took our daughter-in-law out for her birthday dinner. The week was a busy one, but for the most part I managed to stick to my plan of concentrating on household chores on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I did some extra food prep on Tuesday night because I was taking chili to Dinner + Discipleship on Wednesday. My organization skills were questioned when I went an ultrasound appointment on the wrong day! At least it was the day before I was supposed to be there rather than thinking it was a day later, so all was well. Work was challenging because there were computer issues of some kind every single day. In general it was tough to stay motivated and on top of things when I was especially tired and hubby wasn't feeling well. So I ended the week by sleeping late Saturday morning again, and taking the day easy other than going to get my hair cut.
Week Two - February 9-15
This week started with a Superb Owl watch party with the kids, so Sunday was a little different but fun. The rest of the week was unremarkable and I did a pretty good job of staying on top of things, but I realized that I still had quite the chaotic spare room and hadn't made progress there. And the countdown until Landon and Meaghan's visit was on! We went out to the Buckeyes hockey game on Friday evening - for Valentine's Day! - and I made an effort to do a bit of catchup on housework on Saturday.
Week Three - February 16-22
It was just starting to snow when we left for church on Sunday morning, and by the time we'd finished worship team rehearsal, there was a pretty good layer of snow on the ground. Our 55+ lunch group stuck to our plans to go out anyway and we had a great time. Other than snow and cold, the week went okay, and I somehow got through it without failing completely. I didn't get anywhere with cleaning the spare room, and struggled with being tired and unmotivated most of the week. I had to pull myself together for the weekend though, as I went to a Women's Conference with a group of ladies from church and had to up bright and early on Saturday morning for that. It was a very good time and worthwhile, even if it kept me from working on cleaning the spare room!
Week Four - February 23-28
It was still very wintery on Sunday, but we'd made a plan to do something indoors with the kids. We met them downtown and went to the Columbus Museum of Art, focusing on the Cats and Lego exhibits there. We went out for coffee afterwards. The deadline of needing the have the spare room ready by Friday was looming so I pushed through my daily tiredness to check things off my to-do list on Tuesday and worked hard on Thursday evening to get everything else done. And the whole time I hoped it would warm up for the weekend! Landon and Meaghan arrived on Friday evening, just as we were getting home from work and what a great reward for making it through the month!
I meant to have my finalized "25 in '25" list of goal to share, but it didn't make it past the scribbled list on scrap paper. Mostly because several of the items on the list didn't seem to have an obvious way to quantify or measure success in meeting the goal. Some of the items are things to do each month or on a weekly basis, so I can only look at whether I have been doing those things so far.
As noted, I have been practicing my plans for meals and for housekeeping. Not perfectly, but practicing! I did not mention it in my weekly recaps, but I have been practicing for chorus. Again, being consistent is the challenge, but I'm finding ways to get it done. I'd like to have more space for doing the choreo rehearsal, but I can't let the lack of it be an excuse. Personal habits I need to practice include eating better, exercising, and going to bed on time. Something I like about the calendar planner I'm using is that it has monthly and weekly goals checklists and a weekly habit tracker. Of course, the tools are only good if I'm using them, which seems to mean making that a habit as well!
Now, I need to go practice my choreo run-through a couple times so I can check that off the list!
Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions;
I will put them into practice with all my heart.

My Word of the Year for 2025 is Practice. Put the things I've learned and that I know into practice. Practice doing what I know I should do and want to do. Practice how I want to perform. Practice―and get better at―the things that are important to me. Make a practice of healthy and beneficial habits and routines. In 2024, my WOTY was Rhythm, WOTY in 2024, and one way I tried to establish a rhythm was by keeping a very brief daily diary, to watch for daily and weekly patterns to develop and to be intentional about keeping the good ones going. In 2025, I'll continue keeping the daily diary, but with a focus on how well I'm meeting my goals in the disciplines I'm practicing. See my WOTY post for 2025 for how I chose this word: Word of the Year 2025 - Practice.
